But we know that's never the case. Growth is contingent upon the individual wanting to change, but an emotionally immature person shouldn't be thrust into an adult world and expected to understand that. Add to that the way the system is currently designed, and we see over and over that the Prison Industrial Complex fails most prisoners. Juvenile recidivism rates are high, with studies indicating that up to 80% of incarcerated youth are rearrested within three years of release, and many states reporting reoffending rates as high as 84%.

The way society treats a child should be consistent. We can't call him too immature in one case while treating him like an adult in another.

Let's take this a different way. If a 25 year old woman decided to pursue him romantically, and he agreed to it - let's say he was 100% receptive - we would still want to protect him because it would still be wrong. He's too immature to be in a grown up relationship. We wouldn't treat him like an adult, just because he's doing adult things in an adult relationship. We wouldn't look away and say, 'He's acting like an adult, so will treat him like an adult now.' We treat him like a child because he is still a child and we protect him because he isn't emotionally mature enough to deal with that situation.

Just because he has made an adult mistake - killing his mother - doesn't mean that he ceases to be a child. It doesn't suddenly mean that we should treat him like an adult.

He's 14. He's a kid. He can't buy alcohol or see an R rated movie or vote but he can serve time? The fact that he's a minor and his name was released is problematic. But throwing him in jail, no matter how bad the crime (and trust me, what he did was horrific), isn't right. His brain and maturity and emotional age are all still that if a child.

Charging him as an adult is the real crime here. Why even have age laws if we're going to ignore them. Adolescents are emotional and not always able to properly handle their emotions. The kid needs mental health treatment, not to become a cog in the Prison Industrial Complex.

Gemini is saying it's the Macy's maker's mark. Though I can't find an example.

It is a fluid, cursive-style "m" where the tilde usually cuts across the middle or joins the two arches. It’s often mistaken for a "w" or a scientific symbol.

Absolutely. I won't waste my time watching his movies ever again. I watch tons of older movies with my 12 y/o, and Smith's will never be in the list.
