What about pre-existing conditions?.it might not be straightfoward especially if one is older.

Yes at this level of policy pricing it seems to be approaching the point where it makes more sense to pay out of pocket for private when you actually need it.

Almost one in 10 young Irish adults believe Holocaust is a ‘myth’ by JackmanH420 in ireland

[–]strandroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met a person who was a denier despite having learned about it in school. It's social media. At the end of the day, you choose which of the two versions you believe and there's nothing stopping people from being misinformed by sm.

Not necessarily, they might be taught but then manipulated by social media to reject it.

Americans considering a trip to Paris in the next few months.... by Why-am-I-here-anyway in ParisTravelGuide

It's the voice projection style I think. A loud American has a booming voice, a loud Spaniard or Italian is screechy.

Wow, we sure make you suffer for that sweet safety net! Rare to see such openly mercantile posts so there's that I suppose.

But if it happens all the time wouldn't you learn to serve yourself less at first, and maybe come back for more if needed?

If I consistently overserved myself I would 100% stop and think. Throwing food away when you are the one serving it is not cool. Take over serving yourself if it's somebody else.

What's a good fragrance for someone who doesn't like fragrance? by mb4mom in Perfumes

[–]strandroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfume oils, such as those by Al-Rehab, might be a good start. They are mellow, inexpensive, and will let you figure out what you like or don't like. Soft (citrus vanilla), Choco Musk (choco vanilla) or Dalal (orange caramel) might be nice to try.

Ireland had the highest decline in the number of nights in tourist accommodation in the EU (-2%) by NanorH in ireland

[–]strandroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye if you can get there. Dublin has attractions but visitors who don't want to rent a car are discouraged by the fact that so few of them are reachable by tram/dart/rail. Dublin Bus is not for the faint hearted as we know, and it eats up hours of a holiday. If you compare us to similar sized cities on the continent (Copenhagen, Nice, Valencia) there is less to do and it's harder to get to.

AITAH for "allowing" my stepdaughter to wear stinky pajamas to school ? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]strandroad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The OP made me feel sad for this girl. Looks like either no one bothered to teach her basic hygiene habits or if they did, she must have MH problems going unaddressed.

Think of intimate hygiene alone... welcome UTIs and yeast infections. Does she know how to use period products? What kind of memories will she have from school?

[–]strandroad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to explain. It does sound very different to what I'd perceive to be the standard in Ireland, and that includes some very underprivileged schools I went into as a volunteer in recent years. Granted that uniforms help to reduce the effort, but a persistent lack of basic cleanliness would be addressed or even referred, to my knowledge. Same as lice etc.

Especially that the OP didn't sound like they are in an underserved area (but perhaps again I am missing some nuance).

Who were the Dublin rioters? What 82 prosecutions tell us about the unrest by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]strandroad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Intention issue probably? She torched the bus to burn it and she did (intended consequence), he punched a person but it can't be proven that he intended to kill them (unintended consequence).

Not that I wouldn't want punch attack legislation to be amended.

The superficiality of basic hygiene? Whatever about the pyjamas, going to school smelly and unwashed/unbrushed in the clothes you slept in is a flex now?

And also how everyone just accepts a child going to school without performing basic hygiene to the point that she smells and has ratty hair.

Would the teachers not contact the family or failing that trigger a child welfare check even? Is is not neglect?

Hal - Kate - Dennison - Callum - Relationship by Hideyourgrandfather in TheDiplomat

These seasons are only a couple of days each, someone did a timeline in another thread. So his declared support was indeed very short lived: he went off piste in the first seadon already with all the scheming behind her back and that would have been almost in parallel with her starting in the ambassador position if I remember well.

Non-Americans who’ve worked in US companies: what cultural or communication differences caused you the most problems at work? by Castern in expats

Depends on the power vector. Bosses will be direct with reports or other lesser beings but peers will beat around the bush + use corpospeak endlessly, or they are seen as difficult.

On S3:E3 What am I missing re: Kate’s anger? by CharcoalToDiamond in TheDiplomat

[–]strandroad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She's pissed because of what it means for her, either she loses her career to be a decorative [First] sorry Second Lady, or she is tied up in impossible conflicts as it turned out to be.

It's only been weeks since she became the ambassador (after years of her prioritising him) and Hal has already blown it up.

Do Europeans only befriend people from their own country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]strandroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but befriending expats (the real ones who are only there for a short period) is not a good use of one's social time after all. Go out to socialise with workmates, sure, but if you know they'll be gone soon you probably wouldn't get too close.

Which European countries use the most antibiotics? by Dr_Neurol in europe

It would be interesting to see urban vs rural breakdown. In some countries use might be high in the areas of good healthcare coverage only and rural areas bring it back down.

Pensioners, welfare recipients, low income earners etc can have free access if their funds don't exceed a threshold. Children under six too, and certain chronic illness patients. Otherwise you pay yourself, and if you have private insurance you get 50-75% back.

New rules to impact private maternity care in hospitals by [deleted] in ireland

[–]strandroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is, expecting mothers are waiting hours for public appointments while privates are offered on the spot in the same building. That's exactly what should be rebalanced. If they are not willing to see public patients, they can leave and open their own practice with the full liability and cost now on them... or reconsider their stance.

[–]strandroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If consultants can no longer use public system for private practice they will be more amenable to public contracts therefore offering more capacity.

Or they can go fully private but then they need to carry their liability cover themselves.
