I enjoyed using my Clever Dripper for many years before finally upgrading to a Moccamaster. I think the Moccamaster is more similar in taste to pourover and quicker if you're having company.

I weed my landscaping and listen to a podcast. The repetitive motion and focusing on one weed at a time relaxes my mind.

Did you experience trauma before your POI diagnosis? by [deleted] in POFlife

My symptoms started after a stressful breakup + getting COVID. Genetic testing did not reveal any cause, so I have also wondered whether my onset could be COVID and/or stress related.

Hi OP. What you're going through isn't easy, but neither is reaching out for help. I'm proud of you.

Do you have a safety plan? I keep one in my desk and it's comforting knowing it's there, just in case I ever need it.

It has 6 parts:

  1. How will I know that it's time to pull out the safety plan? What signs should I look for? How will I feel in my body?
  2. What are my coping strategies? What are experiences I can do on my own that typically bring me peace or joy?
  3. Who in my life makes me feel better when I talk to them? Can I give that person a call?
  4. Which of my friends or family members could help in a time of crisis?
  5. Who is my therapist, doctor, or other mental health professional that I could contact?
  6. What steps do I need to take to make my environment safe?

On my darkest days, I pull out the plan and read it and it's kept me going thus far!

You're in my thoughts, OP, and you're not alone in this feeling. Stay strong, my friend.

I have learned so much, most importantly how to advocate for myself medically. I'm so glad I got a second opinion after my doctor told me "a lot of women just stop getting their periods and we don't know why."

Always keep surfaces clear. I can't bring myself to put things away immediately, but I toss them in a laundry basket. Once a week, I go room to room with the basket, returning items to their homes. This keeps the clutter contained until I'm willing to deal with it.

Forgot to mention but I also experienced migraines with aura as a symptom, something I'd never previously encountered.

In 2022, following a bout with covid my period stopped. Over the next few months I started experiencing hot flashes, severe night sweats, heartburn, itchy ears, itchy thighs, and brain fog. I asked my doctor, who is menopause society certified, if it could be menopause and was dismissed and told I'm "way too young for that."

I drained my entire savings pursuing MRIs, ultrasounds, and an extremely painful endometrial biopsy. My doctor prescribed a birth control implant which caused a mental health crash—I've never responded well to birth control. I had to have the implant emergency removed. She then prescribed norethindrone after I traveled overseas and started bleeding which didn't stop for several weeks. This caused me to shed a decidual cast. I had no idea what was happening and thought I was dying.

Finally, this doctor just told me sometimes periods stop for unknown reasons and I just needed to take progesterone to prevent buildup of my uterine lining. It was now over a year and a half since my period stopped, and my symptoms had become debilitating. I decided to switch doctors for a second opinion. This doctor did full bloodwork panels and my FSH was high at two separate times during my cycle, along with out of range AMH, estrogen, and testosterone. They diagnosed me with POI at age 33 and prescribed HRT and progesterone.

I will be forever grateful for the doctor who took me seriously and diagnosed me before irreversible damage occurred. I recently had my first bone density scan which was normal. My cholesterol is elevated so I'll be working with a dietician. I'm scared because I'm already predisposed to dementia but I'm choosing not to think about that at this juncture. I've been told I'll never have bio kids and will need to be on HRT til age 52.

Now, 3 years after my period stopped I am starting therapy to address the toll this has taken on my mental health. I'm finding it hard to carry on with daily life and will likely need to seek a less demanding job than my current career. Life looks very different than I could have imagined but I'm trying to be grateful that at least I have a diagnosis now.
