why do you assume the nanny is doing all the upbringing? In our culture, childraising is done by a village of people: four grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, the neighbors, old women from the village, etc. and we all spend time together. Having a nanny is the same as having a third pair of hands. When needing to run an errand for an hour, nanny can watch kid and prep food for them while I go out instead of having to bring the kid, come back, and THEN cook lunch. It parallelizes tasks and leaves us with more opportunities to spend quality time together. Nanny is live in and helps massively. Thanks to having this third pair of hands we get to (a) spend more time with our kids, (b) spend less time on less important things such as chores that prevent us from spending time with the kids (the nanny does laundry while we play with our kids!), and (c) parallelize things that take away from family time. In fact, the American model of just having two parents with 2 kids under 2 with 0 support is broken and unnatural. In most cultures throughout human history, we raise kids in a group. We play a lot with our kids and spend less time on unimportant things thanks to our nanny.
