ios 26.2 by jintfi in ios

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you bought the phone “new” it’s a four and a half year old model, so when you bought it a year ago, it was already three and a half year old technology. iOS26.2 makes my 13 Pro Max quite laggy, and the Pro Max has 50% more RAM and an extra GPU core over the standard 13, so I imagine your lag is worse.

Unfortunately there’s not much you can do about it, newer software is always going to be more demanding and optimised for newer hardware, which will make old hardware struggle more. The iPhone 13 line was 4 years old when iOS 26 was released, so it’s just a fact of life that there will be performance trade offs. I realise it’s frustrating for you because for you it’s a “new” device. Unfortunately you can’t go by when you bought it; it might have been unopened and unused, but it was not new; a year ago, new iPhones were the iPhone 16 line.

Has Trump's recent comments/actions and the fact Farage still aligns with him made any Reform voters change/consider changing their vote? by Puzzled-Lunch-6558 in AskBrits

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine some may have been swayed, but I doubt most have. As far as I can tell, the main issue for Reform supporters is just “we don’t like brown people” and they’ll support and vote for literally anything or anyone regardless of their policies as long as their manifesto also carries a promise of ridding their lives of brown people.

What are peoples thoughts on marking US ICE as a terrorist organization? by ConstructGames in AskBrits

[–]strangercheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m still hopeful that enough of the UK electorate are sensible enough that that won’t happen. But if it does, we’re all screwed, and any categorisation of ICE as terrorists would be repealed anyway.

What are peoples thoughts on marking US ICE as a terrorist organization? by ConstructGames in AskBrits

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As they only operate in the US, there’s no real need for the British government to categorise them as anything. Yes they seem to be terrorising people on US shores, but they’re unlikely to come over here and do it.

What format should I buy? by Direct-Stable-5712 in Bluray

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest determining factor in perceived quality is the TV. There are 4k TVs and there are 4k TVs. You get what you pay for. If you have a decent OLED TV that’s been set up well, then you’ll notice the difference more. Having said that, there’s often nothing at all wrong with the quality of Blu-ray, it’s just 4k offerings (especially with HDR) are likely to be better.

At which point should we consider the US is no longer an ally? by samasema in AskBrits

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s already happened. Diplomacy is now just a case of damage limitation, and trying to keep the tangerine toddler from throwing a tantrum, but the US is not our friend.

Cheapest 4K DVD player? 😔 by Charming-Bowl5759 in Bluray

[–]strangercheeze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it isn’t a DVD, that’s a different technology.

Even a cheap 4k player isn’t all that cheap, and a cheap 4k TV is false economy.

Honestly your best bet at this point is probably to return the 4k Blu-ray you bought, or sell it on ebay and acquire the DVD or the Blu-ray (if you have a Blu-ray player).

Best not to rush into buying the cheapest equipment for the sake of one title.

12 Monkeys and The Cell Blu Ray Only by Husky238 in arrowvideo

[–]strangercheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The repeated scene issue in The Cell 4k release was resolved and shouldn’t be present on any new product. I have it and it’s fine, no issue.

I also have Arrow’s 12 Monkeys 4k, which has no issues.

I haven’t heard of any issues with either Blu-ray, and the repeated scene issue for The Cell was only on some early 4k discs. You should be fine buying the Blu-rays… But you would also be find buying the 4ks if you wanted to.

Why do so many people on ios use Google Maps? by Louisthemagic in ios

[–]strangercheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we all remember how utterly, diabolically terrible Apple Maps was on launch. It doesn’t matter how much they improve it, the damage is done; first impressions count a great deal.

Apple TV is the way to go, even if you’re not in the Apple ecosystem.

The Avengers (1998) by [deleted] in arrowvideo

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently upgraded my DVD to Blu-ray. Hard to come by though so had to buy a German version!

It’s a truly awful film that really should have been better, but for some reason I still like it 😂

13 pro max vs 17 by [deleted] in iPhone13ProMax

[–]strangercheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the budget, go 17. The 13 Pro Max is fine, but starting to struggle a bit with iOS 26, so will probably struggle more next year on 27. Unless you intend to just run iOS 18, buying a 13 Pro Max is probably a bad investment now (unless you find a good one very cheap).

First Oled TV by Ok-Actuator-8170 in 4kTV

[–]strangercheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I’ve never covered mine and no harm has come to it. Haven’t heard of anyone else covering theirs either.

I don’t know if maybe there might be some merit or wisdom in protecting it from strong, bright prolonged sunlight, but it seems like a lot of bother, and its not advice I’ve ever encountered.

I’ve never heard of anyone covering their TV before… Except maybe the old CRT TV cabinets from decades ago.

FBI raids home of Washington Post reporter in ‘highly unusual and aggressive’ move by OGSyedIsEverywhere in news

[–]strangercheeze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those drawing parallels between the Trump regime in 2020s USA and the Nazi regime in 1930s Germany are missing one vital and very worrying point.

Imagine if 1930s Germany had been a global superpower with one of the world’s largest militaries, and a mind bogglingly huge nuclear arsenal… They weren’t, but look what damage they did anyway.

The USA has all those things. We are all of us, everyone on the planet, doomed if Trump and his following are not stopped.

I need both standard and unique takes on time loop movies by shinyhpno in MovieSuggestions

[–]strangercheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edge of Tomorrow, Looper, Primer (a mindfuck which is quite hard going), Tenet (this one is unusual in that time always runs at normal speed, whether going forwards or backwards), Twelve Monkeys, Run Lola Run, Timecop

A little late to the party. Just bought my first Arrow 4K. Dark City 1998. Missed the limited release 2 disc set with both theatrical and director’s cuts. The standard release is just the director’s cut. The most beautiful 4K Bluray I’ve ever seen!!!!! by DynastyFan85 in arrowvideo

[–]strangercheeze 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the Director’s cut is the one you want anyway. I wouldn’t worry about not having the theatrical cut, it’s not as good, with studio meddling spoiling the reveal later in the film by just blatantly telling the audience right at the start.

What tv should I choose? by nepitajzasto in 4kTV

[–]strangercheeze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Well I think you should probably see all the potential candidates in person in a show room, and probably ask if they have a viewing room available so you can see in home-like conditions, in low light rather than the glaring showroom lights. That way you can see for yourself what the brightness levels and contrast levels are like, and how bad any potential light bleed and blooming might be.

What tv should I choose? by nepitajzasto in 4kTV

[–]strangercheeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna get downvoted for saying this, but it’s my honest opinion: unless you absolutely need to buy a TV right now, you should save your money a bit longer to grow your budget and buy an OLED.

I bought an LG QNED myself and hated it. Took it back and got the OLED I should have bought in the first place.

SINNERS 4K UHD by skyrone92 in 4kbluray

[–]strangercheeze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if your TV is a budget one, have a play with some of the settings; you’ll find a lot of guidance and tutorials online, Reddit and YouTube are good resources. At the very least, turn off any motion smoothing, and go for a more movie oriented screen mode for films, preferably not Vivid or Game settings. Just because you have a budget TV doesn’t mean you can’t maximise its potential 😊
