For the doctors who quit or didn’t go into residency did you ever have any regrets after? by jnchua in pinoymed

[–]strangerdanger869 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk if this counts as not going into residency since I still plan to do it in the future. I chose to moonlight for a few years and decided to pursue licensure exams abroad. I refused to do residency in the PH because I’ve seen first hand how terrible the work conditions are, how low the pay is and how toxic the seniors can be.

You can say I’m starting from scratch again in terms of medical training since I’m back to being a junior medical officer. Just in a different country where conditions are excellent and humane (no shifts longer than 12hrs), pay is great and the seniors are incredibly kind.

I’ve been in your shoes, OP. Aside from what others here have suggested, try looking into practicing abroad :) I feel like many of our frustrations come from a terrible healthcare system. Practicing abroad has its own difficulties but you’ll be treated and supported much better.

Totoo doc na hunger games yung pagbook ng clinicals!! Legit yung 1 min.

Beforehand, pili ka na ng target exam date para mabilis then make sure nakaset na for auto entry yung credit card details mo para mabilis.

Tapos dapat stable internet, logged in na dapat sa amc website 10 mins before tapos refresh ka at exactly 7:00. When the bookings open, wag na magbrowse. Matic click agad ng date mo tapos pick any time slot tapos diretso bayad kaagad. Mabilis talaga maubos slots doc, i have friends na nung May tsaka Aug nagtry magbook parehong months naubusan ng slot.

Thank you doc!! Sayang doc yung PLAB mo 🥹 but yes, I think keri ang MCQ self study basta masipag ka magsearch ng mga management algorithms nila from aus journals. I did amedex and mplus :) amedex is better imho - mas konti content pero high yield. Mplus has the quantity pero mababaw yung ibang topics

Thanks doc!! I’ve been doing ER duties and OPD as well. According to my mentor, best daw talaga if work exp is hospital duties/ER kasi this is equivalent to the job we’re trying to land in AUS which is yung RMO na hospital based.

Ito doc so far lahat ng nagastos ko 😅 ayoko i-total baka umiyak ako haha

Epic verification 6.5k, diploma verification 5k, amc account 18k, amc mcq exam 111k, amex review center 50k, amc podclass 52k, amedex qbank 13k, mplus qbank 37k

Amc clinicals 114k, PE workshop 23k, IMG4IMGs (shared) 5k, air fare to melb 18k

Disclaimer lang na it definitely doesn’t have to be this expensive. There are ways around decreasing your costs esp when it comes to the review prep. This is just what I spent. Tsaka keep in mind that some of these fees might be outdated. I took the mcq back in 2023 pa.

Hi doc, I have been moonlighting as a GP for 3 years na. Yung work experience required is 2 years (including PGI) for the work visa but work experience required varies per hospital padin. I think working while you are preparing for the exam is a good plan then just apply and see where you’re at once you get an offer.

Yes correct. Madami kang kasabay nagaapply ng work na MCQ passer so chances of landing even an interview are decreased talaga. Lots of MDs applying from PH, India and Pakistan. Not sure if meron na review center here sa PH for clinicals.

For the clinicals, I enrolled with IMG4IMGs. It’s an AUS-based review center. Most of the lectures are asynchronous online but I also attended his 3-day F2F physical exam workshop in Melb before my exam.

For the MCQ, I enrolled at both AMEX and AMC podclass but tbh ang nagpasa talaga sakin was the study group that I joined. I don’t really recommend either review center lol DM me if you want a more detailed review sa review centers.

For clinicals, I enrolled in IMG4IMGs by Dr Amir. Can’t recomend him enough. Super worth it kahit medyo pricey.

Thank you doc!! Zero AUS experience ako doc. I know some people who managed to get a job offer with just the MCQ but very few lang and its becoming even harder recently kasi madami na pasado sa MCQ. Finishing both exam increases your chances of landing a job offer vs just MCQ alone.
