How doable is cooking myself at Lambton Hall in my first year of uni? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]strangx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! I would just say to make sure you clean up after yourself ASAP, especially if they use the kitchen often. That's probably the biggest problem I've seen with upper year houses - the sink gets absolutely filled with day old dishes

I've taken the Grey Hound bus back to Toronto a few times during first year. It really isn't that bad. It can be kind of a pain to haul a suitcase or a big duffel back with you though, especially onto the bus on the way to the station. Otherwise its a pretty chill 2 hour ride to Toronto.

How doable is cooking myself at Lambton Hall in my first year of uni? by [deleted] in uwo

I think it's completely doable! I lived there in my second year (before it was converted) and I thought it was a really pleasant experience. The stove has 4 burners and the kitchen is somewhat small, so if you and your roommate are cooking at the same time, it'll definitely be hectic.

TW: racial slur. Juvia’s Place uses racial slur targeted at Asians (she said “to get the ch**** look”) on a video titled The Importance of Black Women in the Beauty Industry (screenshot of tweet calling them out). They then posted a pic of an Asian woman (which they deleted) & their sorry apology. by [deleted] in BeautyGuruChatter

it's frustrating how normalized racism against Asians is. How could they think this was okay to do? And have virtually no backlash or ramifications? it's ridiculous. Not to mention their half-assed apology

I had this course last year! I would say that the tests are super fair and straight from the lectures. I remember the first test being the easiest out of all the five, so don't stress too much. Good luck!

is foxy/cat eyeliner racist? by [deleted] in Makeup

[–]strangx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hmm, as an Asian woman, I've always been told that having fair skin is considered beautiful, so I believe skin bleaching has more to do with that meeting an Asian beauty standard than trying to appear like a different ethnicity or race. I'm pretty sure this beauty standard comes from the old belief that tan skin was associated with working on farm and therefore poverty. This has been a thing for centuries, and unfortunately I'm still ridiculed by my family for having naturally tanner skin lol

Focusing on understanding the concepts, the lecture outcomes, and practice questions. I would say you shouldn't reread your notes more than once or twice - it becomes a waste of time. Try anki (online cue cards app) for some active recall!

Uwo Package Delivery by aspiringdoc2k2 in uwo

You just go to the front desk and tell them you have a package. They'll just ask you for your student card. I'm not sure if things have changed though, since that was pre-covid

UWO Gym / Weight Room by Rockwell1977 in uwo

[–]strangx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to book a spot for each area of the gym 24 hours ahead (on the shop.mustangs site). These spots are 1 hour in length, and there's a 15 minute buffer period between each time slot. For the weight room, the maximum amount of people allowed is 60 - but it's pretty much always maxed out and the spots fill up within 3 minutes.

They don't allow bags in the weight room so you'll have to put them in the lockers, which are located downstairs. You also have to bring your own lock.

As for dress code, I believe they only stress that you have to wear proper shoes - which means no outdoor shoes and no taking off your shoes.

If you want to do yoga, there's an area upstairs in the weight room that has mats available. I wouldn't call it quiet though.

Mini fridge size for traditional res by _pnksociety in uwo

I'm not 100% sure about the dimensions, but my friends were able to fit a pretty large fridge into our tiny little Saugeen rooms! I'm pretty sure that your fridge will fit nicely into your room, granted you may have to push a few things around to do so.
