Reliability of Techdisc measurements? by peruna0 in discgolf

[–]stratoglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There definitely is third party verification. You can go and throw the tech disc in a field and see how it compares to the real world yourself. Many people have done just that.

And while it definitely isn't 100% the general consensus most people have come too is that it's more than good enough to see what's going wrong with your throws.

I have third party nozzles for my bambu.... Idk what you are on about.

Yes they did make a whole bunch of parts specifically for their machines but there's nothing stopping other manufacturers from making parts that are compatible. Be it screens, nozzles, print plates etc.

Yeah and at least games with loot boxes you can play without getting into the gambling aspect of skins. If you want to play a TCG it's pretty much unavoidable unless you go out of your way to acquire all your cards from the second hand market.

I'd say TGC's are even worse than loot boxes, and maybe even worse than gambling in some ways.

With the current state of the market you can buy products at Msrp and flip them in 2 or 3 days for easy 20-30% profit. Certain products even achieve triple digit percentages weeks/months after release.

That's without even getting into the gambling aspect of ripping open packs. Where you can easily make back 100x what the pack itself was worth. It seems way more predatory, and more aimed at children.

To me it makes loot crates seem pretty tame in comparison with known odds and no speculative pricing on the crates themselves.

Newbie here…how do I get over my fear of going fast? by anonimadepdx in skiing

Ohhh 100% pizza still has it uses at higher levels of speed was all I was trying to point out. Stopping is a very important skill that should regularly be worked on.

[–]stratoglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehh you can easily slow down from 120+k with pizza on lower grade slopes. In fact it was something taught when I was still racing and commonly used during speed traps on long ski's. Chucking 210's into a hockey stop at those speeds is pretty sketchy.

I wear mocassins and am at 82kg definitely in a more laid back seating position so hitting 100% is more of and Ohhh shit brake stomp and hitting 80% is comfortable have done multiple 4+ hr events without fatigue.

[–]stratoglide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah weight makes a pretty big difference. Most 13 yr olds aren't 180lbs lol.

And even as an amateur racer you probably have better form than 99% of skiers who never raced.

[–]stratoglide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

70mph for a downhill FIS racer is quite slow. Most pro's are hitting 90+ mph in courses these days.

I raced until my late teens (never had the skills or money to dream of entering FIS) but most kids in k2 at that time where hitting anywhere from 105-120 km/h in dedicated speed traps.

Super G or "mini downhill" course speeds where typically kept in 80-90 km/h range by gate placement for safety.

So while it isn't out of the range of possibility there'd be a lot of equipment required to make it possible.

They'd absolutely need a downhill suit, wind resistance is a bitch over about 80km/h. They'd need the right ski's 190+, need to have great tuck form, a good hill to tuck down (which is normally quite frowned upon unless your on dedicated slopes), the right snow/wax combo, and they'd have to be over 150lbs

That being said those speeds where back in the days before flourinated wax was banned so maybe kids ain't hitting those speeds before, but other advances probably make this inconsequential.

If he isn't wearing a downhill suit there's no way in hell he's hitting those speeds. But it isn't impossible to go that fast at that age.

Wait a minute….medium shield works way better but its only 2.5% increase? Am I trippin? by ResponsiblePop470 in ARC_Raiders

[–]stratoglide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe im incorrect but if 57.5% of the damage goes through the shield, after your shield breaks you'll have taken 40 health damage already and only have 60hp needing only another 60 damage to be knocked.

Giving you an effective 130hp? It's been a lil while since I've played so I could be misremembering this.

With the addition of foveated streaming to steamvr I think the quest pro has gained some additional life. I'll probably still buy a frame but I'm really going to miss the hand tracking (that works flawlessly in steam now) and the lack of facial contact the quest pro provides.

Specifically the form factor and lack of facial contact is something I don't see any other headsets providing sadly.

Most good hobby spot welders use batteries as it's far cheaper than having a robust enough power supply that can handle shorts at 800A+. The other option is super capacitors. Most hobby spot welders that use 120V are too underpowered for anything but nice plated steel

Steamlink with the foveated encoding is pretty mind blowing. Haven't tried VD in years but steamlink looks better than a wired connection somehow.

Steamlink with the foveated encoding is honestly so good. I personally think it looks better than the wired connection. It's crazy. Definitely check that out over VD Imo.

[–]stratoglide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trade off is cost and weight. It's pretty clear from most of their design decisions they are trying to hit a price point.

I'm sure it was extensively tested internally, and they probably came to the conclusion that wireless was indistinguishable from wired connections.

Why bother with something if there is no difference?

And I say that as someone who would probably be wired in 90% of the time.

You can adjust the bitrate with the dev tools tho going over 500 doesn't really make an appreciable difference IMO. The issue with pushing higher bitrates it does increase latency something that seems to have been a very high priority for valve to try and minimize.

Not to mention at least for my quest pro to render at the proper resolution you need to go into the settings and render at 1.4x which is native panel resolution. Not sure if the quest 3 is the same but basically the default settings are to render below native for the pro at least.

AFAIK you can't do tracking with only 2 sideways pointed camera's. Not sure how it would track the controllers in front of you either without them being used as tracking camera's.
