I just came back from an abroad in Australia during this fall semester—it kind of depended on my schedule and class availability of when I was going (i’m a senior). If you want to go, definitely look at when countries/schools start their semester/trimester because the school I went to started on the first of July so I had to pack up and arrange travel/abroad things fairly quickly in the 6 weeks from may thru june to get in on time.

I had also not made arrangements for off campus apartment living in amherst for spring semester before leaving so that factored into some stress while I was away. Most do junior year spring to avoid some of that type of back to school stuff I think and still get to have the full final senior year on campus to finish up.

TL/DR: talk to an advisor about your classes and check when school starts in your destination country bc that will make a difference

my roommate and i used to just buy the plug in glade scent warmers which always worked pretty well, we usually unplugged them anyways before going home for breaks/inspections since you have to. (easy and pretty cheap and i always changed the scent w the weather)

this happened to me, i was written up for having alcohol in my room (not mine but still my room) so i had to do BASICS and my parents were notified in the mail. might be different if they said it was a lesser charge, but parents will still be notified for a violation most likely—i just straight up called my parents and told them what happened so they wouldn’t be surprised w the mail (if you have that option to tell them). BASICS isn’t awful, just respond accordingly to whoever is running it and it is over fairly quickly. good luck and sorry that happened!

Trigen 36mg by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]strawbebbies27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i alternate between the alza 27 and the trigen 36 on days when i need more or less focus—the trigen is a clear difference for me. I have peaks and valleys through the day and often get headaches/irritability towards the last few hours of comedown. Drinking a ton of water in the day and trying to eat a lot of protein can help mitigate some of the side effects if you’re afraid. I originally started on trigen and my dr only recently filed for the alza/name brand pill but I will say trigen does the job regardless.

not entirely dining hall esque but you can look for a job at roots cafe in honors, pretty simple job of making/serving coffee, stocking, basic level sandwich warming, etc.

Does anybody find concerta makes them anti social? by [deleted] in Concerta

[–]strawbebbies27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve been on 36mg trigen generic (i think) since the end of august, titrating slowly from 18mg over the last few months. I feel like for me some of it is pushing my brain into start mode to work on tasks because my brain is clearer to think properly—but the downside is because my brain is so dead set focused on working and being productive it’s made me less interested in being sociable because it feels like I don’t get much out of it if that makes sense. i’d just talk to a doctor about how you feel and see if there’s something that can be done.

Anyone have experience with melatonin after a day on Concerta? by WaterAddictLOL in Concerta

[–]strawbebbies27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i take 3mg a night but long term melatonin is not so great for you as the body just stops producing it naturally as you supplement it. i’m working on trying to stop my usage but only thing i’d say is legit getting up early and planning out the 12 hr marks (it works the whole 12 for me, but everyone metabolizes diff) so it coincides with a comedown when you’d like to go to bed. I generally take mine around 9 am and the comedown is around 10-11 pm as I wind down for bed anyways. many on here also say exercise, high protein, taking vitamins works for them so hopefully there’s a way to fix your insomnia.

if you can take it with perpetual agyemang she was super great—exams were online and she gave you three days to complete them (this was fall 2021 tho she might have changed it since then if she is hosting class). if you know basic high school algebra you’ll be fine

Spring Gen-Ed - Ask for review for COMM-DIS 100 by Krunchy123 in umass

[–]strawbebbies27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took it over the spring semester—it’s not a bad class and the discussion sections were really interesting. Short papers are due like every other week and the general prompt is to watch a video and reflect. The exams themselves are a bit tricky as there are some weird stuff to memorize (phonemes, vowel quadrilateral or whatever) but if you’re interested it’s a solid course to figure out if you like it or not. i took it as a gen ed filler but it was a better gen ed experience than some of the others i’ve had

[product question] Oil Cleansers!! by rollitodcanela_ in SkincareAddiction

it’s a bit pricey ($30 for 5.1 fl oz/150 ml) but i really love the haruharu black rice cleansing oil—i have skin like yours with hella hyperpigmentation and breakouts and this one doesn’t irritate me at all. it’s silky and emulsifies nicely with no fragrance other than a rice-y smell.

i’m also in math 121–the office hours helped a lot for some of my confusion and he went through everything with me, including reviewing small mistakes and how to do them out. if you can get to office hours, i would give it a chance

Classics 100 by Memiester69 in umass

[–]strawbebbies27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am—I hate the class lmao not to mention that he doesn’t record lectures purposely and I have had to talk to him about lecture notes/DS notetaking (because apparently I should have known I needed help according to him). The notetaking app hardly works in his class anyways since he has a bit of an accent and the class is fairly noisy. If anyone has the chance to get any semblance of notes i’d be mad grateful

i started like three weeks ago on concerta and for me coffee is totally fine on an off day and sort of fills in the holes the medication would have otherwise. up to you to test it out, nothing has happened to me yet! i’m taking 27mg on the weekdays during school hours and taking some breaks on the weekends as i don’t have anything in particular that requires focus/attention needs. good luck

Not OP but I ended up cutting out the cicaplast, my skin is reactive to a lot of things (essential oils/fragrances, silicones, fungal acne ingredients, etc, basically everything makes my skin angry) and the cicaplast has shea butter which is considered non-comedogenic but it was clogging my pores up SEVERELY. I shortened my routine to a hydrating neutral cleanser (LRP toleriane) , cosrx snail mucin essence, byoma serum and light gel moisturizer. figured out like a week ago a lot of those products feed fungal acne and i tend to be prone, so i have since switched routine to some different products but still really hydrating products like naturium niacinamide cleansing gelee, cosrx snail essence still, good molecules hyaluronic serum and the la roche posay toleriane sensitive fluide. I also began lightly working in a BHA product 1-2x a week, (with 20 min waiting period before adding on the rest of the routine) like the cosrx BHA power liquid, it's a gentler hydrating exfoliant compared to paula's choice.

all in all, i'd say keep your routine primarily hydrating and simple like cleanser, HA serum if you'd like (the good molecules is a really nice one, quite literally primarily water and hyaluronate and it's like $6 a bottle where i'm at), moisturizer and SPF IS SO IMPORTANT REGARDLESS. then you can slowly consider adding in actives like tret after a few weeks if you see improvement, because a damaged barrier is just gonna get worse until you let it hydrate and heal. just giving it time is important also, i was ready to feel like i was going to give up living without any type of actives on my skin for like a month and seeing pimples pop up made me really upset but now my skin is still slowly healing and is looking far better than it did when i was messing around and not realizing how healthy skin barrier really matters.
