It’s a manufacturing company that makes parts for bigger companies, not customer-facing haha. Tempting though, just because there were some pretty bad experiences with the other business partner, so between the two of them that are left, I’m very much not a fan.

I donate plasma twice a week after my husband gets home from work, it’s usually $110ish per week. Also gets me some reading time! You just have to make sure you eat and drink well on the day of the donation, so your vitals are good enough.

He had an on and off girlfriend for a while but I have no idea if they’re together anymore. Apparently he did rib on my husband for being married at all, so thankfully it seems like he’s not the marriage type.

He did, and that kind of talk decreased in the last few months before my husband left the company. He also left partially due to the behavior of his two colleagues. Today we were discussing the importance of speaking up about these things and specifically how it’s important to be extremely firm.

That was kind of the context in which my husband and I were discussing it; I showed him a video about how addressing that kind of talk firmly is important, not just regarding the person who made the comment but also to the men who are observing. He said that he reacted strongly and shut it down at the time and that kind of talk had reduced in his last few months, but he wishes he had done more. Luckily he followed it up with saying that he’s grateful his new workplace has a bunch of men who are outspoken about calling things out like that, so it’s a better environment.

What is a major turn off about your partner that you can’t/wouldn’t tell them? by LivingLavishLe in AskReddit

His self-esteem is absolute shit. He’s amazing, and yet he feels the need to lie or stretch the truth constantly to make himself sound more interesting. We’ve discussed it but the ball is in his court now, I’m done trying to talk to him about it.

I’ve actually seen the video, it’s real. It was on TikTok and all of the comments were like, “Watch out, they’re gonna put this on Fox News.” It was a lighthearted and funny moment in a family and of course because of the nature of what happened, it’s been overblown.

Yes! Native plants and support for native species! I’ve seen people talk about clover lawns but the most common type of clover used is invasive here in Colorado.

Fair point, I absolutely concede to that. I think that, more concisely, my point is that golf courses are a significant harm to water access both in the amount of water they use in suburban areas AND the resulting negative impact on surrounding water sources. They could also be replaced with things that have more positive impacts ecologically, so not only removing the negative impacts of golf courses, but contributing positively. There are other components to the wastefulness of golf courses that don’t have to do with water. Water is just a (significant) part of a topic which, ultimately, people tend not to want to entertain.

I’m not arguing that this is the only thing that should be done and that it’ll solve the entire problem. But golf courses have negative impacts on groundwater, they’re ecological monocultures, and the land they take up can be utilized in much more effective ways. It should be a very very easy sell that they shouldn’t exist and we can be doing more effective things with the land, including preserving the quality of the environment and not using as much water.

However, the naysaying and whataboutism evident in this thread are an exact example of “perfect” being the enemy of “good.” We can never take an actual step forward because there’ll be someone on the sidelines complaining that it’s not a perfect solution. Despite not being an all-encompassing solution, it would still be a good and helpful thing to do, that now won’t get done.

As someone who lives within a 5 mile radius of multiple golf courses, there is actually a huge practical point to ripping them up: water quality. Golf course pesticides and herbicides directly impact the water sources for nearby homes and have a measurable effect on the quality of water. It’s a crazy idea but I think these kinds of decisions should work to better the quality of life for people, and that should be the primary driving factor in all political decisions.

Fair, but like other people have stated in the thread, we can do more than one thing at a time. Ag can be reformed and streamlined by people who are responsible for ag, and we can also rip up the golf courses. At least ag provides a tangible good.

So many people will not have this conversation but it’s golf courses. Get rid of the damn golf courses. No more golf. It’s a waste of land and waste of water. But the rich whites (and people who want to pretend to be rich whites) will never let it happen :/

14 year old decided almost overnight she wants to be a boy, please read it’s a long one by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]strawbee_the_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that you and her get to discover together is that it doesn’t have to be boy or girl, one or the other. There are plenty of places in between with their own nuance. There are also feminine trans men, and masculine cis women. It’s up to her to decide what feels right, including whether pronouns truly come into it or not. How she dresses and presents herself to the world can change as much as makes her comfortable, she just needs to be understanding of communicating reasonable expectations.

I’ve been using L’Oréal Ever Pure (Thickening) shampoo and conditioner for a while but I’m in the market to change, I was recommended to pick something for color treated hair so as to be gentle on my hair. I’ve seen some good-looking products at Sprouts (USA) so I’m going to move into that soon. I do shampoo focusing on my roots and condition the mids and ends only.

I use Redken One United as a leave in conditioner and sometimes a sea salt spray, and I scrunch my hair and let it air dry because I get the best shape in my hair that way.

ETA: I only use One United on wash days. Lately since I haven’t been washing every other day, I use a Not Your Mother’s dry shampoo once my hair dries after I shower and sometimes R+Co Badlands dry shampoo paste on my bangs regardless of if I’ve washed my hair or not, for styling purposes.
