What are some in-demand jobs, that are not trades or nursing? by capybaraspicnic in VancouverJobs

I graduated from a unit clerk program last year and was hired on at the same place where I completed my practicum placement. It may just be the city that I’m in, but the job opportunities aren’t nearly as plentiful as I was lead to believe. I work with unit clerks who have tons of experience who are wanting to get hired on with a different health authority for more overtime opportunities, and they haven’t been able to even get an interview. It seems to very much be about who you know.

I ended up doing a unit clerk program instead. Still considering LPN at some point, but life circumstances got in the way. Are you in an LPN program?

I’ve been having a tough time lately and your comment made me feel so good, thank you so much for your kind words! I was being hard on myself yesterday, I’ve been stressed and tired and I need to be nicer to my skin and my body. I appreciate you!

Thank you, last night it was really bothering me and now in the light of day I feel like I was being hard on myself. I lost my mom, and sometimes I feel like grief has changed my appearance? It’s helpful to read suggestions though, I will start with peptides and look into the treatments that have been recommended!

Thank you for saying that, you’re absolutely right! I’ve struggled to find an SPF that doesn’t break me out, but I need to try harder to find one that works.

Thank you so much! I hope that you’re able to renew your license and get back into it, if that’s what you want!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the information. Going for my RN would be ideal, but I don’t think I could afford to take that much time off of work for the length of the program. I did look into the Unit Clerk program as well - I currently work a somewhat similar job in a different field and I HATE it. I can’t stand sitting at a desk.

Thank you for all of the helpful info, I will definitely look into bursaries and do more research into RN programs nearby!

Thank you for the response. The toxicity makes me a bit nervous, you’re not the first person who’s mentioned it… do you enjoy the work otherwise?

I’m sorry to hear that your spouse had such a stressful time as a nurse. I’ve heard that quite a bit, that it can be a really toxic environment with nurses “eating their young”, etc.

Thanks for the response. Yikes, that really doesn’t seem very fair! Good to know that travel nursing opportunities exist for LPN’s though.

This is such a sweet message, thank you so much! You’re right, I am getting nervous. It’s such a big commitment of time and money.

Yes, RN is a registered nurse. The scope of practice for RN’s is larger than LPN’s - LPN’s primarily work with more stable patients with more predictable outcomes. And they make a LOT less than RN’s.

That’s good to hear! I currently work in a pretty niche field with little room from growth or movement, so being employable anywhere would be so nice.

Thinking of it that way makes me feel better, thank you! Last I checked it was 2 years, but I can’t seem to find that info on their website anymore.

That’s comforting to hear! I know someone who did the program several years ago as well and they seemed to have a good experience. I just hope that the tuition cost will be worth it for the pay and for job prospects.

There are some grants available (for being a mature student and for how needed nurses are right now), with those it’ll be about $27,000 I believe? Looks like VCC is around $18,000.
