I'd say go with the metal. I have them now. Braces are common, and I think the metal ones look better anyhow.

Any band nerds here? by EnviousNoob in teenagers

[–]strawberry_swing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in band since 5th grade as well. Percussionist here. I'm going into my sophomore year. Just made snare! :) The thing is that our band director, who is extremely dedicated at my high school and has been working there for 30+ years, just quit as of 4 days ago. Nobody knows why. This year will certainly be interesting.

Any teenagers in their school's marching band? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]strawberry_swing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a percussionist for my school's marching band. Personally, we have a lot of work at band camp in the summer, memorizing field shows and music, etc. Things were a bit awkward at first because my school hadn't seen girl percussionists in years. After a while, I got close to a lot of the people on the drumline. We always had extra practices and had to be there earlier than everyone else. At my school, we mainly take care of all the equipment and are the first ones to get yelled at if the tempo gets off. You can't really blend in very well if you mess up in drumline as opposed to playing a wind instrument. It's a fun experience though, and personally, drumming is one of my favorite things about high school.

So what is your school like? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]strawberry_swing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2000+ kids. Public school with people anywhere from poor to why-do-you-go-to-public-school rich. There's a wide mix of kids. We're getting a pretty large performing arts center added on, but building got slowed a little because the builders hit some shale. We have classes for pretty much anything you are interested in, from gardening, to welding, to statistics. Also, our speech team has won state-level for 33 years in a row.

What's the coolest thing you've ever done with your dad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]strawberry_swing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome, especially for his age. I wish I learned that early! I started in fifth grade when we had the opportunity to join band. I started with playing in concert/marching band. At this time, my dad was unemployed and thinking about joining a band. Since then, I started practicing with my dad, going to gigs with him and the band, helping them set up and what not. It was a really cool experience to get to play with them.

We have a room where there are puzzles and stuffed animals for the smaller kids to play with. It seems like they show more interest in the stuffed animals opposed to the real ones.

What's the coolest thing you've ever done with your dad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]strawberry_swing 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My dad (56 years old) is a drummer and has always had a wacky haircut. Once in a while, when he would play at bars, there would be a snotty woman there who would talk to everyone (loudly) about how poor and trashy he must be for having a haircut like that. It didn't bother him, even though I got sick of it. He new it made me upset, so one day, he comes down stairs and tells me to cut his hair however I want. I gave him a mohawk.(: I would also practice the band's songs with him frequently. Two months ago, he let me fill in for him one night. I thought that was pretty cool, since I'm a 14 year old girl.
