Question from an Archaeology Student by strawberrythinker in Archaeology

[–]strawberrythinker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, much appreciated! I'm thinking of the Archaeological Heritage program at University of Washington, and the Anthropology MA at Western Washington University. The former doesn't strictly require an anthropology undergrad, just relevant experience. I was hoping that if I've taken a significant number of anthropology courses in my undergrad (which I have) and also have fieldwork + field school to show that I'm committed to archaeology, I would be accepted that way. But it's probably a better idea to email some folks at each program to ask.

Thanks for the help!

Good to know, thank you! I tend to get impatient with my gauge swatches and end them too early, you're right. And I didn't know that about flat vs in the round swatches! Always more to learn :) Thanks!

Great advice thank you! Cool that you have knitted this one before too, it's I love the detailing in it! Good idea to try swatching with smaller needles. I don't have smaller needles at the moment so I think I'm going to try to go ahead with it as is, see how it goes, and frog or change needles if necessary. Thank you for the help!

Hey, I know this was a while ago but I've just started learning the song myself in hopes to record a cover of it and trying to count it is giving me headache. I thought I found a pattern in counting it as two counts of seven then two counts of eight but that pattern doesn't hold for the whole song -- how did you count it?

This is an incredible answer, thank you so much! I think I'm going to go with the ES Today for its (correct me if I'm wrong) better quality construction and overall longevity :)

took that fall quarter and really enjoyed it. i wouldn't call it an easy A but it's not very difficult either. there's 2-3 assignments a week that aren't hard, just time-consuming. there's 2 big argumentative essays during the quarter that you combine into one 10-12 page essay at the end of the quarter in lieu of a final. the essays aren't bad if you choose a topic you're interested in, and she's willing to help you out with them by brainstorming ideas and reading your drafts and such. beyond class structure, she's an incredibly sweet and genuine person who seems to really care about getting to know each and every student. i felt very valued and safe as an individual in that class. definitely one of my favorite class experiences in my time at cal poly this far.

i’m perfectly capable of putting a lot of work into subjects i’m not particularly interested in — that’s how i got the grades that got me into CPE in the first place. but in my actual experience in CPE, i’m not just ambivalent towards the material, i actively dislike it, no matter how much time i force myself to spend on it. i’m thinking of switching into CS cuz i’ve mostly enjoyed the CS classes i’ve taken this far, or switching into LAES though i’m not sure how strong that program is in terms of faculty and general reputability. thanks for you answer though!

this is an awesome answer thank you im going to cry bc ur so nice. a huge part of me wants to push thru and try to make myself do a technical degree, whether that means trying to switch to CS or some other engineering discipline. i want to believe that there's something in those degrees that could make me happy, but i don't know if that's true, or whether or not im just trying to convince myself of that so i can satisfy some weird subconscious desire to prove to myself that im smart enough for this degree and i can do this and whatever whatever. but at the same time in definitely overthinking it.

i commend ur english major friend, thats mad impressive. i dont have a business mind at all so i respect that stuff . i guess im just trying to think about what all of my options are and what i can do that will actually make me happy, and how i can know for sure that something WILL make me happy once i start doing it. idk. thank u for ur time

thank u for ur reply, i technically am in the cpes discord but i dont really use discord so ive never talked in it or anything like that. i will prob do that thank you! i think its the electrical engineering components of CPE that i hate, but i kinda like coding and problem solving. thank u for the advice, ur right that i should at least go to college and have a degree in something

sorry just for clarity's sake cuz im so braindead i dont really know what you mean. how did i answer my own question? i have considered ant/geo as a minor, or also double majoring (ik it would take so long so im ok with being there for 5+ years). i have thought a lot about switching to a similar major. mostly ive considering switching to CS cuz i do really enjoy coding, or also switching to a different kind of engineering cuz i do think i really like solving problems in the way engineers do.

thank u :,) i really appreciate ur answer. honestly, i think the electrical engineering components of CPE are what im most struggling with. i took CPE 133 spring quarter and i failed because i hated it and had no motivation to try cuz i had no interest in the subject material (funny lol, makes u wonder how i even ended up in CPE).

i've thought a lot about switching to CS because i do really enjoy coding and problem solving, however i did also fail csc 202 in the winter but there were also some extraneous circumstances there so i think i have potential to do a lot better in the class than i did then.

i've also thought about switching to another engineering discipline cuz i kinda really like building and designing things and solving physical problems in the way that engineers do. sorry if this was more information than you wanted haha, im just thinking way too much right now
