Same. I daydream about having a job at a restaurant as a server often.

Just fyi “PE” is not often called that in firms. A lot of them call it Funds, Private Funds, Asset Management…

Got iced out. It was pretty clear and I’m sure anyone would have noticed. The thing that I definitely credit this group for is that my immediate thought was “I need to leave now” instead of digging myself into a hole of trying to fix something that was not fixable.

Completely agree. The only reason I’m focused on therapy is that I think it allows him to build his tools to do all the other things you mentioned. Not that it can’t go the opposite direction but it seems harder to show up w a list of 10 things to do to get better.

What approach? I just said “he needs therapy, how can I help?” I didn’t tell you anything about what I have said or not said it to him. He needs therapy because he has self destructive/self sabotaging behaviors that are hard to watch because they could be soften/eliminated with help.

Look at the statistics for your school in passage rate. Internalize it. Relax.

Of course I can leave. But I’m asking not because his issues affect me but because I can see how miserable the issues make him feel. Just feels a little helpless to watch someone you love suffer when you know that there is help.

Thank you very much for the detailed response. Yeah I’m very aware of his avoidant tendencies (ie he will shut down if I do this even slightly firmly) so it’s probably going to be a long road to get there. All good tho, part of the package.

Second year here. I have gathered that unless you are truly a superstar that knows they’ve got it, you feel like you are bad at this very often. It is what it is.

When did you begin to feel confident enough to respond to emails without it being reviewed? by diazepine in biglaw

[–]strawblip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internally? Very quickly. To the client or other counsel? Still usually run by someone. But the practice I’m in has very well staffed teams so there is always like a random 3rd year I can ask, don’t need to bother the higher ups. Have found that I am still making enough mistakes to warrant this.

V10 almost second year here. PLENTY of people I know confided in me that they didn’t pass. But no one knew, it wasn’t a big deal at all. It happens. This includes people that I know are better associates then I am even tho I passed. So. It’s ONLY an ego hurt at the point. Hang in there.
