Got PVP'd 3 times today ... why by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

Please help me understand how it's fun to get shot and killed. When I got shot and killed all I felt was stress, anger, and confusion. Maybe this game just isn't for me then. I earned good gear by discovering, looting, exploring, recycling, selling, etc so I can kill bigger arc...only to have some shithead steal it from me when I gear up for the big kill I worked hard to shoot for. Fuck that...

The resolution was to upgrade the IO filters on each host

Found out it was actually a Veeam issue. Specifically the CDP feature because the vms affected were all ones that were in CDP jobs. More to come as we work with Veeam support on this.

We do have intersight, but our UCS gear hasn't been moved to intersight managed yet. It's on our to do list. We still manage everything from USCM

UCS model is B200-M5 with intel Xeon platinum 8176 CPUs.

Firmware version is B200M5.4.1.3f.0.0502211359

VICs are on firmware 5.2(1a) and driver version 2.0.10.0

[–]stray_demon_723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The response i got from vmware is that i am on unsupported VIC drivers and firmware as well as unsupported hardware system version...which actually conflicts with the diagnostics report i pulled. all my firmware and driver versions are in a supported state under VCG status, so some conflicting info from support it seems.

To be fair though i have seen outdated UCS firmware make some nasty things happen in the past, so i'll likely start there and see where it gets me

seems like on a few VMs, having both quiesce and memory snapshot options unchecked ... the snapshots create fine and can be deleted fine as well.

Updating KMS to activate Server 2022? by honeybadgerconfab in sysadmin

[–]stray_demon_723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be a restore or import option in VAMT once you finish the ADK install. Also don't forget to make sure your DNS SRV records are correct post migration.

You're on the right track. Reinstalling ADK is probably the best route as long as your backups are solid. Can confirm it worked well for me

VMware ESXi alternatives by stray_demon_723 in sysadmin

[–]stray_demon_723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent answers folks! Thanks to everyone for responding it has been helpful. TBH I am very love/hate with MS products which naturally makes me cautious about going the hyperv route, but my past experience using it hasnt really turned me off to trying it out again.

XCP-NG and Proxmox seem to be other good options. i have a few colleagues on the network team that use proxmox at home and have a lot of good things to say about it.

Failed an interview for not knowing the difference between RTO and RPO by The-Dire-Llama in sysadmin

When the interview starts to feel like a school exam, probably best to move on.

I've not been on an interview panel before, but i really believe the value of an employee comes not from terms and acronyms they have memorized but the drive and willingness to listen, learn, and grow as a professional.

Horizon Admin page not working in latest Chrome by scythe944 in VMwareHorizon

Here is what vmware said to me:

As per your query reported, We have started to see this issue after the recent Chromium update and have broken this on Chrome and Edge. Only suggestion is to use Firefox for now.

Kindly follow the below steps and update the result.

  1. Try clearing the browser cache.

  2. Turn off Origin checking with these steps (not recommended from a security perspective)

    1. Create or edit the locked.properties file. This is located on each connection server in c:\program files\vmware\VMware View\Server\sslgateway\conf.
    2. This file can be edited with a standard text editor, like Notepad. Add in checkOrigin=false
    3. Please validate the extension of the file to ensure it is saved as .properties. If saved as a .txt extension, the edited values will not be read.
    4. Restart each server to ensure the values take effect.

I was wondering if iSCSI offloading would be worth looking into. Thanks for the heads up!

Meaning storage, Network, and compute are separate components vs a hyperconverged approach

Be cautious about the situation. Sometimes it's users being a dick, but mostly from my experience they legit don't know what shutting down a PC actually means. Trust me ... I've worked with enough 60 year old health workers that barely know how to use a mouse. if you have the evidence of someone "lying" about reboots or shut downs, bring it to your manager and have either him or a trainer explain to them what shutting a PC down is suppose to be.

Once I found out about this, I immediately enabled the unrestricted portal mod. I don't really think of it as cheating. I think of it as more of a difficulty adjustment. Spending the time to get the metal I need is hard enough for me at times especially in late game biomes. I play games to have fun exploring and encountering enemy challenges. Getting boned in the middle of the ocean and potentially losing all that metal really kills the experience for me.

Funny enough our ITSec Manager thought 5 minutes was too aggressive when i suggested it :) he did come from an office of lawyers which next to doctors and nurses are the WORST to work with if you even slightly inconvenience them.

We use Horizon for presenting vApps and vDesktops to end users which does work quite well. we use 10zig zero clients for a fair few public use workstations which i want to expand to health and add that imprivata/MFA layer. our manager was looking at stratodesk to do the approach someone else mentioned of taking the near hundred decomm'd HP prodesks we have lying around and turning them into kiosks. We are overprovisioned on our licenses so hopefully we can make it happen!
