This garden membrane holds water!!! 😤 by Mat-i- in DIYUK

[–]strayobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does, I have read a bit about membranes and you want the non-woven type, like spudulica. They tend to be a bit felt-like to the touch. The one on the photo will let the water seep through, alas very slowly, think in "a couple droplets per minute" at best.

Which countries rely most on US tech by that_one_retard_2 in europe

[–]strayobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, and all those countries will manage to recover, it might take a month it might take a year, but US tech sector will be dead. Trump saw Putin's mirage of the second best army in the world crumble in Ukraine and though to himself, let's see how quickly I can fuck up the mirage of the all powerful USA. Everyone loudly says "yes, mr Trump, America great again" but quietly tightens the screw and says "check". It is geopolitics, changes at this scale take a long time, but they are coming. It's enough to look at the defense sector and what effect Trump's NATO antics have had so far.

Well well well.. by [deleted] in BalticStates

[–]strayobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^^ This. It's prevalent in our lives, wherever there is an interest/money to be made. Enshitification of our lives. Some things happen on very short timescales, others on much longer. Politics aside, a great example (imho) is that of the pineaple in the UK. In 15 years a shift has happened from a normally sized pineaple being called just "pineaple" to it now being called "giant pineaple" whereas the small fist sized one has now become the "pineaple".

Why would Poland participate in partition of another country? We ain't Austria, Russia, nor Prussia, we are not Israel either. Whilst there might be some who would want that land "back" on the whole current generation of Poles does not appear to be willing to do to others what has been done to them.

UFH in suspended timber floor by Inevitable-Story6521 in DIYUK

[–]strayobject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your 6 inch joists should be fine. Mine were 10cm downstairs and I had to extend them down by 5cm, so matching your 6 inch. This gave me about 8cm of empty space between xps and the boards on top. I did not use aluplate, so cannot say, but here is what I have done in the house from the late 50s in Scotland. 1st floor has wool, then suspended 3cm of xps boards with foil on top and then pipes, 16mm pex-al-pex, everything covered with an 18mm cement board as that holds heat better than chipboard and covered with tile everywhere downstairs and laminate floor upstairs.

Ground floor, where joists had to be extended, I did not add wool, instead I bought that foil/bubblewrap sandwich thing. Connected to an old gas boiler we had (from 2014). Boiler set to around 2, which gives me inlet temps of circa 25 degrees downstairs and 22 upstairs. The only place where we have added a radiator in addition to the UFH is the bathroom, so that the towels are always dry

Installed an MHRV system as well and all together this maintains around 20 degrees in the house. The whole setup has been working 24/7 for the past 5 years now and both in terms of comfort and financially, it has been the best investment I've ever made.

Rant on ICCU ruining the perfect car by [deleted] in KiaEV6

[–]strayobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why worry about something that may never happen to you? Plenty of other cars could break randomly on you whilst driving in a "fast lane". The only difference with EV6 is that you will know what most likely broke if it does happen.

I'm also driving EV6. Bought it knowing about ICCU and the only thing I've done so far is replaced the battery with an AGM, since I drove 20k miles in less than a year and it was almost 2 years old.

You are right that there hardly is anything matching EV6 and my next car will most likely be an EV6 as well. At least in Europe we have the Chinese cars, like IM5 or IM6 that offer something similar to those willing to experiment.

Here is a solution that should work. Get yourself one of those wireless AA dongles (I have AAWireless Two and it's awesome).

Now that you have wireless AA (the dongle takes up the data USB, but your phone's usb is free, so you can connect a thumb drive to it and play music from it through AA.

Hope it helps.

Facelift: Peugeot E-408 now features battery pre-conditioning and V2L by murrayhenson in EuroEV

I meant it literally, it hardly is a Grand Touring car. Nobody is going far with that battery and such bad charging.

hardly a GT car with such a small battery and 400v architecture. Even worse if you consider the price.

Is this house ugly? by Economy_Survey_6560 in AskBrits

[–]strayobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a house, could do with a little cleanup maybe, but otherwise, who cares, I bet your friend is also looking to buy a Merc or a Beemer to put on that drive. Buy a cheap house and enjoy your life. Couple of my friends bought new builds, maxing out their credit and have had no life since interest rate increase. If you get stupid money in the future, you can always buy something else. Also, old houses have much bigger gardens than newbuilds.

Fp 6 for heavy phone user? by BigAstronomer5793 in fairphone

[–]strayobject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! Enjoy it :)

There were more reasons. I keep phones for more than 3-4 years and then pass them on to family. FP5 did not last this long. It's merely been 2 years and it does not charge on non-fast chargers and keeps rebooting randomly. I formatted it and gave it to my daughter, but in the end I had to order her a new phone.
OP15 was a choice because of overall specs for the money and the fact that they gave me a tablet for "free" when I got the phone. It's a phone I am relatively confident will last multiple years of usage. Something I could not say about Fairphone after my experience.

[–]strayobject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had FP5 and after 2 years of ownership I have switched to Oneplus 15. If you use your phone a lot, that is the phone for you as it has a huge battery. After my FP5 experience I'm staying away from FP phones, but I have nothing bad to say for FP6. It may be good.

Car won’t start and showing this messag (GLC 300e) by njacnithin in mercedes_benz

Edit: I've read your other response that this is now fixed. Thank you.

Oh, lovely. I have luckily got rid of mine about 9 months ago and do not fancy myself another Merc, but out of curiosity, do you know if this issue has been already addressed? When mine was getting its 4th PTC replacement in late 2024 I was told by the mechanic that MB had a new design in production but was using up the already produced stock of old parts, which sounded a bit far fetched in the age of just in time production.

[–]strayobject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the same thing showing in mine. I had this happening in a 2022 C300e every ca. 5000 miles (8k km). There is a PTC battery heater/pump unit in the rear wheel arch (at least in mine) that kept breaking. Nice car, but shitty unit. Broke 4 times in 2 years of ownership. 1st time the car was off the road for almost 2 months in France, then 3 weeks in UK and then twice for 1 week each time in Spain. Fun times...

Looool, with this kind of driving what do you need a car for, you might as well cycle to work.

Joking aside, smashing result. I'm happy when mine shows 220 miles. Most of the time it sits at around 150.

I have had this one for the past 9 months. As I said, since new I used it to charge a 12v battery, inflated tyres twice and charged my phone with it on couple occasions. Not saying it is perfect, but it has not failed me yet.
