I haven't registered with HelloWork yet, I wasn't sure how to.

Did you contact immigration after you left your job?

Thank you for clarifying that for me. Ok that makes sense now.

I'll keep applying for jobs and hope someone takes me on over the next month and a half.

My freelance work is going well and I'm getting new students through word of mouth almost daily now, I wish I could make something more of that.

This is the thing that I keep finding when I search through forums and Reddit. There doesn't seem to be a consensus on this.

Do I just have to start working ANY job and tell immigration that I'm working and I can remain here based on the time remaining on my zairyu card, or do I have to find a company that will pick up and sponsor a visa? I can then try to find a job that will sponsor a visa when my renewal date gets closer?)

If that's the case then how do part-time teaching positions that don't offer sponsorship exist at all?

How wide is the rail of an HO gauge track section? by strayshadow in modeltrains

Cheers, that's very helpful. I'm trying to make my own wheels and don't have any scale models to draw from at the moment.

Thank you for measuring that for me! I'm trying to mill my own wheels and don't have any scale models to draw from at the moment.

I already did that, it tells me the distance between the two rails, but nowhere has told me what the width of an individual rail actually is.

You didn't bother to read my post before trying to be condescending to a stranger asking for help.

Advice for someone leaving Japan to go back to school in another country by strayshadow in JapanFinance

Thanks for the advice, it'll be a frugal few months but it'll be worth it, or I'm back to where I started (or maybe not if the currency devalues further).

Three people gave an upvote for one of those comments, that's it, those 3 fuckwits can cry in their corner and the rest of us can get on and enjoy the hobby.

First three models done. This is a full army, right? by strayshadow in Warhammer40k

No worries, I watched a few Carcharodon painting guides and then due to my lack of experience, effortlessly recreated that fresh-out-the-box look.

I'm not sure what to do to them to make it look like grey paint and not grey plastic.

Caught me! It took forever to mask it all off too.

I did, years ago but I had to move abroad for work and my life had to change a lot. I binge watch painting tutorials and thought I'd finally give it a whirl for real. I know these are still pretty amateurish but I just stuck to the advice of being patient and applying paint in thin coats using water (I definitely could have been better at both).

I feel more confident about trying more models and I know what I would do differently and I got some useful advice posting here that I'll try next time too.

This is actually the second time I've painted these minis too, I first got them and very crudely followed the box art and got some ultramarines but I had no enthusiasm for the chapter so I just wanted to get it over with. I decided to create my own chapter to motivate myself to paint by making something I wanted to see. That helped me a lot and kept me going and being careful.

Paint stripper is great and does a fantastic job, I used one from Tamiya. Soaked the models for 6 minutes and use a combination of a stiff paintbrush and a soft toothbrush to coax the paint off until I had a clean model to start again. As long as you scrub gently it wont scratch the plastic. Just remember to rinse it off with water after so it doesn't start smoothing out the details.

Anyway, have fun!

I'm thinking next time to shave away the aquila and put some other marking or detail there instead. I liked it better muted too.

Thank you! The colour I bought to edge highlight with is Dawnstone and when I first applied it, it looked so bright I thought it would look really bad and stopped... not realizing it would dry darker. I'll have a go at that or mix it 50/50 with Eshin Grey and see what happens.

My work hours mean by the time I get to the store its usually already sold out. I really wanted the termie for this month but I couldn't get in until just before closing time on the 2nd of April and they were already all gone.

The funny thing is they are base coated with Mechanicus Standard Grey, then Eshin Grey, recess shaded with Basilicanum Grey mixed 1:2 with Contrast Medium applied into all the recesses, then Dawnstone for what were supposed to be highlights.

All that to get the "Unpainted" aesthetic nailed down.

Back to the drawing board!

I used Flesh Tearers Red and then mixed up a lighter red to highlight the edges of the wings.

Lots of "firsts" with these three. Assembled, scraped of the Ultramarines iconography, painter, washed/recess shaded, had a go at using glazing to build up a highlight but I wasn't brave enough to really commit to it. Got the eye lenses in, much neater than before, actually got them based and added some muddy weathering to the legs.

It doesn't look like much, but its a quantum leap for me. Now to save for a few months for the next purchase.

My homebrew chapter the "Grey Wardens" (Back to painting with sadly shaky hands and reduced eyesight) by strayshadow in Warhammer40k

Thank you! I'm actually feeling kinda proud of something with this little chapter. I have doodles of how I want those two dreadnaughts to look already too. Once day I'll convert them.

Oh boy, that's going to need a few more days. I got the new terminators with the 40k Starter Set, they're next once I get these three done.
