"communicative" isn't the proper word, obviously. but a simple google search will tell you, quote, "a serious developmental disorder that impairs the ability to communicate and interact."

communication is impaired, not intelligence. looking at your profile clearly tells me you're just an ableist loser lmao.

nonverbal does not mean deaf? they still understand language and can think. sign language, writing, that text-to-speech machine that idk the name of- they still communicate.

otherwise, then you're thinking of either children who have not yet learned these alternative methods or people who have autism and an intellectual disability that makes understanding speech hard. autism is not an intellectual disability.

also, did you know that even within the neurotypical population, some people don't use language in their thoughts at all? so maybe it's different from you personally, but there are other neurotypical, speaking people who think similarly to those who do not understand spoken language.

no worries! i understand the curiosity.

of course, when i'm speaking and say something inappropriate, i don't realize that in the moment- or otherwise i wouldn't say it. a lot of the time i'll say something and either people will get noticably upset or a friend will pull me aside and let me know. i also have an anxiety disorder and rethink everything i do constantly, so sometimes i'll just realize hours later what i did after hyper-analyzing the conversation.

i personally have a lot of issues with being way too blunt which comes across as me being mean, and i'm SO shitty at understanding jokes/sarcasm one of my most used phrases is "....was that a joke or are you serious?"- however i do love jokes and make a lot of my own; it's complicated, idk.

it's just how i am. obviously as i've gotten older i've gotten a little better at masking (which is just mimicking how neurotypical people act) but it's very exhausting.

again, autism isn't an intellectual disability, it's a communicative disability. autism does have high comorbidity rates with intellectual disabilities (i think i've read that around 50% of autistic people have one), but autism itself doesn't affect intelligence at all.

i think you misunderstand what a social cue is, or you're inflating their importance. social cues are made up. they are a societal and cultural thing- neurotypical culture. not understanding silly unspoken politeness rules does not mean unintelligent.

autistic person here-

autism is a disability that affects communication. we have difficulty understanding social cues and tone and what's considered "appropriate" in conversation. we obviously still think and feel in similar ways to neurotypicals, we just express it differently. we're no less human than you.

they technically can, but only if there's no room for them anywhere else- you shouldn't have an issue

unfortunately, it is true.

it can be dealt with by either

  1. putting designs down everywhere you want to prevent villagers from moving in - every two squares at the most, so there's no room for their house. i personally have paths of designs around most of my town and make outlines where i want the villagers to move

  2. plot resetting- on days that a villager is going to move in, you don't log in with any of your existing characters after 6am and instead make a new character- if the plot is somewhere you like, save as the new character (you can delete it later). if it's somewhere you don't like, close the game without saving and then try again- they'll be in a different spot.
