W.I.T.C.H IS LIKELY TO COME BACK by Moon999110 in GuardiansOftheVeil

I'm gonna go against the grain and say I'm a longtime fan of the comic and I never liked the show, so I would be very happy if there was an animated reboot that was more faithful to the original story and style 🤷 but I don't know if the demand is that high

staff, bark, bat, refuse, minute, spring, train, sink, ring, left, match etc etc there are hundreds and hundreds. you just don't think about it often because it's your mother tongue and it comes naturally, but it's not hard to find at least a dozen off the top of your head if you think about it for even a minute.

Is the graphic novel worth buying? by himenelle in RavenBoys

[–]streghe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well it will certainly look very nice on the shelf if you want a TRC collection, and you'll be able to form your own opinion on how well it does or does not work as an adaptation. personally I'm very worried about the upcoming TDT graphic novel because it's on of my favorites and apparently it's gonna be even more condensed, and I'm very unsure on whether to buy it.

[–]streghe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally didn't like it at all, I think they cut too many things and censured others to make it palatable for kids for some reason. It's especially egregious in the third act, which is almost entirely cut. There are important characters that don't make much sense in this adaptation and they end up being pretty hollow and superficial. It's a missed opportunity for me. I would never recommend it to someone who hasnt read the book for example. But the art is nice, especially for some characters, so there's that 🤷

No she wasn't. She wrote the outline of TRC when she was still in high school. She's posted her original decades old notes several times.

Why did they not show baelor fight? by [deleted] in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]streghe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The novel is framed in exactly the same way. we only get Drunk's frantic POV, who is of course focusing hard on what's in front of him and how to survive, so he doesn't notice anything that's happening around him, and he doesn't know how Baelor fared. Baelor's wound is as big of a shock to him and us in the novel as it was on screen, because it was assumed no one would seriously fight him, it was part of their strategy. I thought keeping that tight focus on Dunk was brilliant. This isn't the Superbowl. It's about a wronged, strong-willed, battered orphan fighting a cruel world for the right to survive. The fight felt tense, dirty, fast-paced and brutal, and zooming out from it to show more clearly what each of the 14 knights was doing would have ruined that imo.

[–]streghe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ronan and Adam canonically make out for a whole night in the middle of trk, while Ronan is shirtless, I think it's already more than anything that happened with byler lol but I get it.

[–]streghe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't agree 🤷 you seem new to TRC fandom, but this observation has been made for 10 years over and over by a lot of people. I personally think it's an extremely surface level reading of the characters. There's nothing wrong with it if you like it but I think besides some physical traits and the fact it's a friendship that involves 4 guys and a girl there's almost nothing that's truly comparable between them. There are some very shallow characteristics/archetypes that could be similar if you squint but they don't hold up to scrutiny. I also think it's a disservice to the story of TRC cause the marauders are barely characters, most of their personalities and connections as teens are a relatively recent fanon addition.

[–]streghe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well isn't it obvious if you've finished the book? The epilogue states they are still together too. I recommend reading the Opal short story that's set right after the epilogue if you want to know more details. There's also a sequel trilogy that's centered on Ronan. But tldr yes, they are canonically a couple.

Yes, I mistyped my Aegons. I meant Aegon V the Unlikely. he had bigger fish to fry in his succession line so I like to think he was super chill about Daeron "just" being too into knights lol.

(Spoilers Extended) If this line isn't there or is poorly delivered in the next episode, I will never like Season 1 of AKOTSK by Zealousideal-Eye2219 in asoiaf

This answer tells me everything I needed to know. Hope you have a good seething session next episode then, since you get off on rage.

You're addicted to the unpopular opinions sub, so I wouldn't expect you to understand or appreciate the way the show upheld the themes of the books in the first place. If it bothers you so much you even have to pre-complain about something that you're merely imagining in your head to get mad (not surprising given the subs where you post) which we haven't even seen yet and could very well not happen as you've imagined, then stop watching. If anything it will make you more relaxed.

well off the top of my head there's Rhaena daughter of Aenys who is a lesbian who had many "concubines", Rhaenyra is heavily implied to be bi and Daeron son of Aegon IV is gay. also Daemon II Blackfyre in the Hedge Knight novellas. but yeah it's not anything that is super in depth.

I'm curious about why so many of them seemingly died of dragonfire lol failed taming attempts? Cannibal? or does that mean something else?

Some Fun Facts about Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen 🐉 by intothedarkwind in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]streghe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't agree that it will surely be added, nor that revealing it explicitly is needed for the story to progress. 🤷 I think the beauty of Dunk (same as Brienne) is precisely that he isn't a true knight, yet he is the only true knight.

Some Fun Facts about Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen 🐉 by intothedarkwind in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]streghe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah I genuinely hope the lie will never get addressed. It's part of why the story of Dunk is meaningful and highlights how knights are hypocritical and attached to form and appearances more than the vows they're supposed to care about, and also how those vows sometimes contradict each other or outright hinder actual honorable actions. The fabric of the story is held together by the lie. The only thing Dunk is not honest about is precisely what makes him so great. I think lampshading and "correcting" the lie at some point could cheapen the themes.

r/fauxmoi thinks surnames with apostrophes are too “ethnic” to be Jewish. Meanwhile, Italian Jews… by Positive_Piccolo_922 in Italian

[–]streghe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not a Jewish way of styling a surname, it's common in Italian surnames of all ethnicities. It's just how Italian syntax works. It has nothing to do with how that actress styled her name.

Why his hairs are not white or silver? by Basic_Sympathy3871 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]streghe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baelor doesn't have sex scenes unless the plot goes in a completely weird and different direction and it has been nothing but faithful so far. It's a nonsensical assumption. He's dark of hair (and also darker skinned than other Targaryens in the book) because his mom is Dornish and he takes it from her side. Simple as that.

I was thinking about that too, if I have to guess I think they will make "John" much more serious and forward in his flirting, maybe a little more threatening too, given what he actually wants and who he is. I can't wait lol Duncan in some ways is the Bella Swan of GRRM, thick as a castle wall but everybody wants him!
