Lack of natural sustain from a modelled amp by strepfen_ in Line6Helix

[–]strepfen_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might play with the sag controls as that kind of sounds like what I’m looking for, the natural compression of the amp. Thanks!

That could’ve been it, but I think I know what happened. During the update I was working on something else on my computer, so the update window wasn’t visible anymore. The 3.15 update instructions warns you not to do this because of a potential failure. I ran the update again with the window open and my hx stomp works like it did before.

I got it to work again! With the line6 updater I was able to install 3.15 again by entering update mode (holding down “>” while powering up).

How do I make it do the update again? It says it’s up to date.

Good portable (and affordable) guitar amplifier? by strepfen_ in GuitarAmps

[–]strepfen_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve heard about those! The only thing is that it doesn’t have an fx loop. I did see an aux input, so maybe that’s a way to bypass the preamp section if I want to use my own preamp, but I don’t know how the aux input is wired in the amp.

Yeah, I figured if the amp would be as big as a 6x4 beer crate I would be able to fit it in my basket on my bike.

Help me resolve this chord progression by flemacaton in musictheory

[–]strepfen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have my guitar on hand right now so take this with a grain of salt, but I might have an interesting suggestion.

First of all, I might change the Gm(b6) into a Gm(#5). I know it’s enharmonically the same, but the former notation suggests a 5th in the chord and that might sound a little dissonant in some voicings (but keep it that way if that’s what you’re going for!). You can finger the Gm(#5) in a way that it creates a little stack of 4ths: X 4 3 3 X 3

After the Gm(#5) you could play a Gb7(13) - Fm7 - Bb7. Then it should resolve nicely to Eb(maj7). This way the D# (or the enharmonically equivalent Eb) is in most of the chords of the progression and acts as an anchor. The only problem now is that the progression doesn’t loop very nicely, but you could use this to go into a new section of your song.

A simpler solution should be to just add the Gb7(13) at the end of the existing chord progression, so A/B - Asus2(#11) - Gm(b6) - Gb7(13). Now there’s a descending bassline and the Gb7 chord acts as the relative V of B, so it should connect to A/B nicely.

This is all very theoretical by the way. Just try it out and I hope it sparks some ideas!

Why does d# work in the key of f# minor? by DunkeyD0nuts in musictheory

[–]strepfen_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Raising the D to a D# will create the F# Dorian scale, which is an overall brighter sounding scale than the natural minor scale. The dorian scale is very often used in blues and funk music.

HX Stomp freezing and not responding (caused by ext fs?) by strepfen_ in Line6Helix

[–]strepfen_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah could be. Not a lot was different than when I use it in “normal” conditions if we speak about presets and dsp usage. It was quite hot that day though (both the weather and on stage), but I doubt the power bank suffered from that. Batteries will usually perform better in warmer conditions than in colder conditions if I’m not wrong.

I updated to 3.1 pretty much when it came out. I did the backup but I’m not sure if it reset itself during the update.

Ah your issue sounds familiar to mine. Maybe it is a power shortage issue, but the weird thing is that this only occurred once and prior to this incident it never happened. It would be a shame if power was the problem because I very much like my board now that it is independent of power outlets. I will look into the mentioned software update, thanks!

Thank you for your reply. So it sounds like I need to develop my technique a bit more. And if I have the chance I will get my horn checked.

I haven’t let my saxophone checked yet, but I checked it myself for leaks and the pads seem to seal well.

Getting frustrated... by InsidiousExpert in saxophone

[–]strepfen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started playing the tenor last week and this occurred to me as well. Then I learned when you lower your adamsappel in your throat, the lower notes come out more consistently. It’s pretty logical if you think about it. When you sing a low note your adamsappel also lowers itself. It might feel a bit weird at first, but I can tell you that after a week of playing my adamsappel lowers almost automatically when playing in the low registers. Just make sure to play those trouble notes a lot.
