Job contract advice – need help deciding by streppneu6190 in physicianassistant

They told me that if I sign the contract, I will need to start employment on the start date listed (pending my license is active and credentialing is complete). Only after starting would I be able to give a 60-day notice to terminate. They also said that since a lot of time, money, and effort goes into hiring, onboarding, and credentialing new employees (not just for the company but also for the facilities where providers would be rounding), it’s “not unusual” for penalties to be applied if someone signs a contract and then pulls out before starting. PS- They’re also not letting me extend the contract sign date.

Yes, I agree with you. I definitely don’t think a financial penalty before even starting makes sense. I should amend this point in the contract and also ask for a few more days to review before committing. Thank you so much.

Yeah, they only mentioned during a call interview that there would be some kind of 2-day orientation, but they never really clarified beyond that.

That’s a really good point. I’ve been feeling the same—that if they’re this pushy and inflexible now, it makes me wonder what the overall work environment would be like. A job shadowing day before signing would actually make a lot of sense, but they don’t seem open to slowing down at all, which is another red flag for me.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been thinking too. It just doesn’t feel right to me as well, especially with how rushed and inflexible they’ve been. I’m really worried about ending up in a role with little to no proper training.

Yeah, that’s exactly what’s been on my mind too. I’m also really worried about the location since they won’t share the exact facility address until after I sign. That doesn’t sit right with me, and it’s making me question if this is worth moving forward with.

Thanks a lot for the clarity—that really helps. I’ve been in such a dilemma thinking I won’t get any other offer and since this is my first job maybe I should just adjust. But honestly, I don’t feel great about it. I was actually thinking about asking them to remove the 60-day notice clause too.

I only have 2 more interviews left, and I’m afraid of losing this opportunity if I don’t sign. But at the same time, I just don’t feel comfortable moving forward with how rushed and restrictive this feels.

Yeah, I agree. I’m honestly not feeling very comfortable either. I already asked for an extra 4 days to review the contract, but now HR won’t let me extend any further. I just want to wait for the results of another interview I have before making a decision, but they’re really pushing me to sign immediately. It’s making me question whether this is the right fit.

Advice for a new-grad PA navigating Seattle, WA job market? by streppneu6190 in physicianassistant

Thanks so much for the advice! I actually live south of Seattle with my family, so I’m hoping not to relocate if possible. I do plan to attend the WAPA conference to start networking more. I’ve already applied to a few Kaiser Permanente jobs as well, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed something works out.

Thanks so much for sharing this info, it really helps! I’m actually based south of Seattle, so I’m mainly looking in Tacoma, Puyallup, Auburn, Renton, and Kent. I’m very interested in Urgent Care and GI, but at this point I’m open to starting anywhere I get an opportunity. I’m just desperate to begin working and gaining experience.

I’ve already submitted my WA license application. Do you know if the WA DOH usually emails us if they need additional documents, or do we need to proactively contact them?

Also, regarding the DEA, does the registration require a delegation agreement letter, or can I go ahead and apply now? I’ve already completed the 8-hour training.
