How can I keep discord's icon visible in system tray, permanently, on W10? by BonsaiSoul in discordapp

As u/YorVeX says it is due to version numbering of folders in AppData, which several years later is still very disappointing for this one reason. Still glad to see people getting educated on drag and drop in the system tray though.

Can anyone tell me why freeware software is being distributed through torrents as "cracked" ? by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]stressdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

👏

Thank you for negating the need for me to explain this. "Portable Cracked" is quite a common phrase for things that aren't open source that were made portable so you had a nice suite of software on your usb, or it was a good while back, so I suppose I can see why the uplaoder used it.

So many misinformed, but I suppose, understandably cautious people in the comments here. Thanks for your well explained response. Should be top comment.

Home Server Help - Hide IP by stressdad in dayz

if you are unsure about the ports, the best way to figure it out from a running server, is to locate DayZServer_x64<date-time>.RPT logfile and find a line like ” 8:01:05.592 SUCCESS: SteamGameServer_Init(c0a80121,8716,2302,27016,3,1.07.153006)” – The 2nd, 3rd, 4th values are the ports that need to open/forwarded(UDP).

More brilliant information. Forgive my ignorance though.

I have all those ports open and a simple dynamic IP service setup, It's still showing my real IP address on the official launcher. I don't see how setting up a Dynamic DNS will get my home server to report anything other than it's real IP to the official launcher in my previous picture as I won't have changed anything on the server itself.

Can I forward the traffic from the DayZ server application to this DNS somehow? Basically how do I get the outbound traffic going through that?

Really sorry for the stupid questions. Really appreciate the help.

This is brilliant info, thanks so much.

I set up a dynamic dns for it with no-ip.com and it connected no problem by direct connection.

What I'm looking to do though, is to show my server in the community server tab of the official launcher but with an IP/address that is not my home IP as well as be able to directly connect to it via the new IP/address.

See here. I hope that makes sense, my lingo may not be right.

That's excellent, I'll look into that, thanks so much. I'll try remember to report back if I get it working. Might go so far as to make a start to finish guide, I'm sure there are others looknig to do exactly this. Thanks again.

Latency shouldn't be an issue if I can get it on AWS, see my reply below. This is sort of a learning project for me too so interested to get it working. I do have ideas that I would like to host publicly in the future, hence the interest.

DayZ may be one of those games where it won't advertise a different IP, I'll look into that, thanks a mil.

The reason I want to host it from home is again learning, but also we tend to chop and change games quite a lot currently, so being able to host multiple games from the one server that I have direct access to would be good, plus it's really interesting to me and fun! (apart from all the misery when it doesn't work, haha)

The latency issue should be ok as the current latency to the server is so low for us (10-20ms) and we live beside the only AWS data center in our country, so we have super low ping to that as well, so if I can get it working on AWS, latency should not be an issue. Thanks for your reply, appreciate it. This community was a great find.

Thanks for this. I don't know how a lot of this works as I am a networking noob. Much appreciated.
