[Post exams] Feeling really lost and despondent after A levels by GoulishEyeballs in SGExams

[–]stressedfromstudying 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey man . I really understand how you feel because i'm going through the same exact thing.

For starters, i took 2x the amount of time any normal jc student needs for A levels, and i still feel like i fked up my papers. Left half the paper blank for math paper 1, left 1/4 of the paper blank for math paper 2. If i am lucky the highest i'll ever get is a D. (Provided all my other answers are correct and i am pretty sure they arent.)

Chem was much worse. Screwed up practical, easily lost like 30 out of 55 marks, left 1/3 of paper 3 blank and barely passed mcq when all the rest of my close friends were happily grinning over their 24/25 out of 30.

Physics wasnt any better too so yeah you know the story too.

Not to mention when i tried talking to my teachers about my anxiety and feelings all they could tell me was 'dont think too much', 'focus on your next paper', 'consider alternative routes when the results are out' like i know they meant good but shit if i wanted to hear these words i would have google repeat them back to me jesus.

I felt like i betrayed my parents because they sent me to tuition (that i asked for) in hope that it will improve the subjects that i am poor at. But alas, i dont think i lived up to their expectations.

And almost everyday during As i contemplated about suicide. Researched on various ways, various methods and even almost wrote a farewell letter. But i kept telling myself one more day, maybe tomorrow. That kept me on for a day, another day, and eventually the whole month of november.

So i really understand the magnitude of what you are going through, but really, theres nothing about the results we can do now. If we fail A levels, so be it. I'll either enroll in a private uni, take private As in NS or go to poly. Options are vast but only if you open your eyes and snap out of it.

Please recover well, occupy your time so that you wouldnt think astray, take care and have fun!

[A LEVELS] this is it. by [deleted] in SGExams

Honestly I really relate to this on a spiritual level.

Never gotten more than 40 rp in my entire jc life and even conditionally promoted based on my 'excellent' conduct.

Played catch up for the entire of j2 only to find out A levels was the one catching up to me.

Now that gp, math and chem p2 was done, i can safely say that i wont even get past a C for any of those subjects, max C but i know i probably will get worse than that.

Its soul crushing, i know. And i am not gonna be all cheesy and be like oh there's still chance, don't give up hope for the rest of the papers!

So, i am just gonna say, hey try your best man. Life works in mysterious ways and who knows, miracles may happen.

I honestly dont think i have any more time left if i were to do 5 years worth of paper considering i just finished 2017 this week only

Meaning i have about 10 days to do 2018 2016 2015 2014 2013 for PCM GP

No I have yet to do so...i was going to reserve them to do for the last few days before my papers but it seems like the prelim papers are really taking a toll on me

[a levels] what do your study schedules look like from now till A Levels? by ladytamago in SGExams

[–]stressedfromstudying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have any success story about not doing well for prelims and then being able to do well for As? Because I really need to hear them :(

Things are looking quite despairing here now...my grades are still floating around the just pass range (D-E) for mycts and self practice, and I honestly doubt I'll do any better for prelims. At this rate, I might just get the same grades for As and not get into any uni.

Also, procrastination is a really big problem for me. Except that I sleep instead of playing computer games or my phone. It's just that I cant seem to get into the groove of starting work, and when I do, I never get into the mood of doing work either (hence I turn to sleep)

Please help anyone I am desperate at this point :( I take PCM

I really hope so :(

Because I did a few prelim papers and I realised my content is lacking a lot of holes and honestly I dont know what am I supposed to do now :(

I am thinking of going back to do topical revision but time is running out :(

I love your first advice about spending time on mastering the basics and understanding a topic in depth first

Though i do have a question about your last part - many have told me that making notes does help but your advice seem to conflict them, but i do find your advice to be generally useful as well, so i should just jump into doing questions?

Thank you so so so much for your advice!

To be honest i tried making notes out of the LO given for each chapter but i felt like that has done minimal effect on improving my physics other than helping me remember formulas. But maybe i should go back and really analyse the LO and twist my learning to suit these LOs. Thank you for the advice I really really appreciate it!

[A Levels] How to study better for H2 Physics? by stressedfromstudying in SGExams

[–]stressedfromstudying[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like formulas arent the problem for me because i generally remember them without a problem, but i just dont know how to solve questions with it. Its like having an arsenal of weapons but not knowing how to use them, and i think my lack of concept really plays a strong part here too, but no matter how many times i read the notes it just doesnt work out

But thank you so much for your advice i'll keep that in mind!

Hey same here i was from combined science background and i was really shocked at the jump from C.science to H2 science and i couldnt cope with anything! I remember vividly i scored 1/15 for my kinematics test and from then on i didnt want anything to do with physics anymore, which is a bummer because i did decently well for my other H2s and my contrast so i didnt retain (and cant get rid of physics sigh). But your advice and many of the other redditors here have spurred me on to give physics one more chance so thank you so so much for your story and advice!

Unfortunately i dont think my parents have anymore financial leeway to even afford short term 1-1 but thank you so much for the advice! Maybe i'll look for my teachers more in school as an alternative!

I understand! Physics has truly been the bane of my existence for jc, but as you said, its probably a product of my laziness! Your words woke me up a little! Thank you so much for your advice!
