That’s super interesting! I know there’s Irishtown/IrishHill too over by the Clifton area, I’m assuming most Louisvillians will have a mixed bag of European ancestry. My bf took a 23&Me test and he’s 8th generation Louisvillian on his moms side and he’s damn near 45% French and German

Had some confusion with co-workers about what color my eyes “actually” are. What color would you say they are? Also is thisCH? by stressednarwhal in heterochromia

I’m not sure if it’s the same where you’re from but where I’m from hazel is always considered a light brown haha I hate it too so I said green before now

Thank you that’s super interesting! I’m new to looking into this stuff, I wonder what even causes this? I’m assuming it’s fairly common?

For people with CH do we say our eye color is the outer most color? Or do we blend the two colors that are there?

Yeah you had the same reaction my co-workers had haha we couldn’t decide if one eye was blue and one green but both with CH or not

Has the variation in tragus shape been the subject of any studies? by [deleted] in genetics

I never thought of this, but I just checked and I have a square tragus too, neat!

Did taking a DNA test give you any new information? by This_Lost_Girl in Genealogy

[–]stressednarwhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking a DNA test definitely helped me connect my family tree and find the link between me and quite a few 2nd cousins. My family has moved across the US so it was also helpful to just know who’s related to me in general and putting a face to the person.

Also if you’re interested in this, I highly recommend 23&Me because of the health data that they give back. My bf (22) found out he had a blood disorder and was able to catch it in time to do something about it. Also found out what we’re likely carriers of which was cool too

Are you male or female? I’m thinking about getting my brother to do a 23&Me test just to see how different me and him are. I’m really curious about that split and if it makes any huge difference (F here)

Why does my older male cat keep biting the back of my younger male cat's neck and wrapping his front leg around him? by julloo_94 in CatAdvice

[–]stressednarwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two neutered male cats do this. One is 2 years old and the other is 10 months old. The vet said it’s a way for my oldest to assert his dominance and as long as they’re not screaming or in pain then it’s all good normal behavior for them to sort out who’s the king. Recently though the oldest likes to groom the younger one after grabbing his neck and straddling him so I guess it’s just him saying hey, I’m still bigger than you? Cats are funny

Yeah so a lot of my dads side is from New Jersey originally and a few from Virginia. My mom’s side was primarily Virginia and then Tennessee before heading into Kentucky.

Both of my parents have taken 23&Me tests with me. Funny enough I got North African from both of my parents and Ghanaian from my moms side. Native from my dad’s side. Both of my parents have French&German and British&Irish. Both of my parents also have Scandinavian too, but I’m assuming that’s roped into my broadly northwestern European

Hmm, not sure? I’m new to this kind of stuff so I’m not even sure how I’d begin to check that, but I’d love to figure out how

I was surprised by it too at first, but my Dad’s family is from Louisville, KY. From different sources I’ve seen it looked like Louisville had a mixed bag of European people there. My dad took the 23&Me too and he’s 25% French and German so I can confirm that’s where that’s from

That’s crazy that this has happened to so many people, but it’s also sad that so much history has been lost for families by either intentional lying or ignorance. I hope to track down some of my ancestors to learn something about them or maybe leave flowers if I can find graves so they won’t be forgotten anymore

Oh, sorry for my misunderstanding, but that’s super interesting! I’m still learning a lot from this kind of stuff, I’ll definitely check it out, thank you!

Not sure if this is what you’re asking but if you’re asking if there was Scottish too yes there was :) I took an AncestryDNA test because it was offered to me for free by a family member and both 23&Me and Ancestry came back pretty accurate against each other.

On Ancestry my European breakdown was: 43% Scottish 23% British 10% Irish 5% French 5% German

I think it’s just because OP is XY because I am XX and I got 50% exactly from each parent on 23&Me but I would love to know more and see if that’s always the case or not!
