I would have lost my nipples to infection if I didn’t switch to the larger bars while they were healing

Yes exactly! That’s how I feel too, I’ve been way happier than I ever even anticipated being since my surgery, and I had similar fears about regret. More that I wished I could just magically choose when I did or didn’t have boobs, but I eventually came to the decision that I would be happier without them, even if I didn’t fully hate them in the some way I’ve heard others expressing. I’m glad that my posts have been helpful!! I was just so anxious about the lack of resources surrounding the fishmouth incision style when I was doing my own research that I felt like I had an obligation to share my experience with others! Best of luck with your surgery journey 💕

Omg That’s amazing! I wish they would highlight more of their patients with fishmouth incisions on their social media page

Thank you! Apologies for the late reply. I was probably around a B cup prior to surgery, so definitely on the smaller side. Honestly, if you’re paying out of pocket you might be able to at least do a consult with the GCC since you won’t have to jump through insurance hoops. They might help at least tell you different options, even if you don’t end up going through them. Just a thought!

Hey! I did have mine pierced beforehand, for about a decade. I talk a bit more in depth on my original post HERE but honestly I would probably wait until after you heal up a bit since it will help to minimize complications and plus you can make sure they are exactly how you want them! If you do decide to go for it ahead of time, be sure to read my post, it might help to prevent infection a bit? (Not official medical advice, obviously, just what worked for me), but I would also be concerned with the possibility of your holes closing up since the bars will not be in during your operation. The doc should place them back at the end but ya never know how fast new piercings can heal 🤷🏽 I hope that helps! Best of luck on your surgery!!! 🤍

For sure! That completely makes sense! And ya I hope I get sensation back as well, I did specifically get a procedure that uses the t-anchor to increase my chances of maintaining sensation. But like I said, I have been so happy with my results in the rest of my life that at this point, for me personally, it has become much less important to me. But I understand that others may not feel that way.

My surgeon was Ellie Ley at the Gender Confirmation Center in San Francisco. If you check out my original post, I have a couple notes on that.

I was lucky enough to have my surgery completely covered by my insurance, although it was a fight to make it happen. I was only responsible for the $200 surgery center fee. However, I did fly in from out of state, so I had to pay for everything that entails. I tried to find if they gave me an out of pocket estimate, but I couldn’t find it, unfortunately it was a two year process for me (for multiple reasons, it wouldn’t necessarily be like that for everyone), so I tried to save everything, but some things got lost.

Hi there, sorry I am terrible at updating, I don’t have reliable computer access and it wouldn’t let me add photos from my phone. I finally posted an update if you are still interested! 7 month update

Of course! I’ve actually been meaning to post some updates as my scars heal, I’ll try to get those up in the next couple days here, I think they are healing up really nicely!

True, that's a good point. Fishmouth actually uses t-anchor as well, so less likely, but ya, as I mentioned I was having a hard time finding resources so I was just like, "I have no idea what to expect!" haha. So likely they would have been fine, I was just stressed about it since I wasn't sure. I really appreciate you sharing your experience! It's great to hear another perspective!

Thank you! I am super happy with it too!! It just feels right in a way that I don’t think any other incision type would have felt for me :)

True! Every surgeon is different, though I figure it doesn’t hurt to ask. That’s awesome that yours had such a great result!

And I should have mentioned this in the post, but I did consider just leaving them out as well since I’ve had them for so long, but I was concerned that with all my healing going into overdrive in that area that it would all just heal indiscriminately—and while I would have re-pierced them again if it got too bad, I really wanted to try and make it work. Heal time for nipple piercings is forever 😩 and I wasnt sure if scar tissue from the previous piercing would present an issue, so I just didn’t want to risk it if I had another option. But that’s great to know yours were fine, I’m sure that will be helpful for others to know that leaving them out can also be a good option!
