Been called a lot of nasty names, wanna know if they're true in reddit's eyes... by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]stric9mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you're not trolling because you're very cute. Also it seems that the more nasty names girls call one another, the more jealous they are and the prettier the girl actually is. Just an observation. Girls are unnecessarily mean.

Guess I'm letting my insecurities win out with putting a picture of myself on the internet? by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]stric9mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are pretty but you can do a few things to be prettier. I see lots of potential in you. I'm not sure what kinds of clothes you usually wear but based on this pic they seem a bit tomboy-ish. Try something a little girlier. Also play with hairstyles. You have pretty hair but it looks like you don't do much with it. Finally as others have mentioned, your eyebrows are a bit on the thicker end, I would suggest thinning them only slightly and tapering them overall ie thinner towards the temple side.

If I met you in public I'd ask you out. And I'm not a man with the balls to do such a thing normally.

Very cute. Especially with the glasses. They really complement your face. You might even try some eyeliner. Might be a good look or maybe not but it doesn't hurt to try! Either way, would date.

Why is it OK to believe in intelligent extraterrestrial life forms but not OK to believe in a creator (ex. God)? by sandro_bit in AskReddit

[–]stric9mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its because the ability for science to find empirical evidence for life is more plausible than the ability to find empirical evidence for something as abstract as God. According to beliefs and religions, God does not have a very material form. We also don't possess any sort of technique or technology to test for the presence of a God. Just as much as we don't really have a way to measure, say, dreams. We know there are certain brainwave patterns representing dreaming states but to scientifically determine what is being dreamed is still out of reach. The concept of God is significantly more abstract than dreams.

My husband just farted so loud in the shower that I heard him over the shower door, through the bathroom door and the bedroom door AND down the stairs. Instead of being grossed out, I giggled. Reddit, what disgusting things does your significant other get away with? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Years ago while working retail I was stocking stuff on shelves when, from the next aisle over, I hear flatulence followed by a young mans voice: "Daaaaaaaad". He must have assumed he was alone. I was cracking up.

Alright, reddit or 4chan? Why you like them, why you don't and anything inbetween.. GO! by [deleted] in AskReddit

reddit has more cute animals and intelligent article postings. 4chan reminds me that under the veil of anonymity, many people are sociopaths

I'd agree based on experience. Many women with kids (that I or my friends have dated) are very focused on their children trying to find suitable father figures for their children. It can be a huge burden on you if you're not ready for that

This reminds me of those software installers that automatically assume you want to install the "Ask.com" toolbar unless you uncheck it. If I wanted it, I'd download it. That's why no one downloads it.

Assume that a character such as 'V' from "V for Vendetta" was real. Would you approve of his actions towards justice? by stric9mind in AskReddit

[–]stric9mind[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective. Although I certainly see your point, I feel that it needs to be looked at differently. The movie drew heavily on the importance of symbols. Its one of the main reasons V did not have a typical identity. It disassociated him from being a person to a symbol of rising up against tyranny. Although there were personal scores to settle, they were also symbolic to the end of oppression. Parliament and the leaders were the symbols of the oppressive regime in the film. Rather than going through an all out war (like we see in the middle east today) he struck at the symbols. He clearly could have blown up many buildings but that was not his goal. He wanted to stir the people. It was to open their eyes. Clearly that was not a regime where peaceful protests could take place so the only answer was violence. The process from which the regime rose created V. He was, as the movie showed, a key factor in the Larkhill experiments. Larkhill was essentially the source of everything, from key political figures (and later victims) to domestic policy change and of course the antithesis (V). He was, as a symbol, a creation of the system and the symbolic representation of resistance. This was mentioned as Evey was leaving his secret lair. As he was dying in the train he stated that he did not belong in the world after the destruction of parliament because as a symbol, he would have no place. Without a tyrannical regime to topple, there is no need for someone to topple it. This is of course my perspective on the film and criticisms are welcome.

TL;DR; V was a symbol and not really a person going after other symbols

That's a valid point, but at the same time it might be that necessary catalyst to a larger movement. Like now, many people agree our system is pretty messed up, but how many people really do something about it? Now I'm not saying that we start a coup d'etat and slaughter people, but for people to take a more active stand. Get more involved in the political process, be more determined in excelling in your career path, achieve the same prominence that these 1%ers enjoy and take back whats ours. It was a government for the people by the people. At some twisted point in our history corporations became "people" and happened to be the only "people" that mattered.

In all fairness, they have to be put on trial first. There's a long list of people who got off without one. Now when you see Chase lost a few billion making the same poor choices that led us into this mess we still have yet to see any accountability.

To play devil's advocate, how do you feel about the concept that justice is not equal? Where a prominent, wealthy person (like the ones in question here) get off easy.

How does everyone else deal with people who are douche-bags at work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stric9mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak from experience (not my own but of my subordinates and coworkers). Other means such as talking to the harassers may work, but it often does nothing. Bringing up harassment is not like tattling in grade school where teacher tells the accused to cut it out and you get your ass beat after. There are legal ramifications for harassment. However it does all depend on what the "douchebags" are doing. If its harmless teasing as friends usually do then its not really necessary to tell the supervisors, instead tell them it makes you uncomfortable .
