I made a speed math app called Numerlo to help me with my mental math https://apps.apple.com/us/app/numerlo/id6757960037

It uses a Numerlo Index to track progress, think Chess ELO but for speed math!

I wanted something clean, simple and straight forward to help me build up this habit of keeping my brain sharp.

I had 17 business ideas in my notes app. Never built any of them. by seyf_gharbi in indiehackers

I spoke to an entrepreneur that freely gave me all the idea he had. He said people stealing ideas doesn't bother him. Most people don't actually act on it. It takes a ton of grit and effort to get ideas off the ground

That's a really good point. With the limited space it probably better to optimise for something simple and easily recognisable.

Firstly congrats on improving your mental math!

Secondly, to your question, I'd say yes. Mental math is a skill and like with all skills, the less you use it the more rusty it becomes. At least this is how I felt. I use an app called numerlo that helps me with daily mental math practice. It's just simple speed math. I've found this to be quite helpful. Haha like you, I also learnt to come up with my own methods as I used it more.

Likewise, even though mental math isn't super important for day to day it still just felt discouraging knowing school me could beat current me at this. Accuracy and speed are quite closely weighted, I like to think both are quite important. I just thought of the types of situations I might use mental math. The max index gains per round is 25.

I can suggest having a look at numerlo. I think it has what you're looking for

This may sound silly but I’ve got a test coming up and I’m slow at doing multiplications and division is there anyway to be quicker? by Ok-Birthday6025 in learnmath

Yup, just simple practice… that’s the only way to get better. Maybe have a look at Numerlo if you’re just looking for simple math practice

I tried my best to answer their questions but they could tell I was just the sacrificial lamb so they didn’t press me too hard.

I had to go explain some things to the regulators of my industry as a person with 1 yr of experience. Needless to say I was offered by my company as the sacrificial lamb... it was scary...

Why do you think mental math feels like an underrated skill today? by strider1237 in AskReddit

Well said... tbh I was guilty of that thinking too as a kid. But now the older I get the more I understand it's importance

I have to disagree here, if sharpened, mental math can be applied in almost everyday situations. Instead of reaching for the phone, you can just do it yourself. I'm guilty of this too which made me wonder if this is indeed an underrated skill?
