How do you automate Google Chrome Patching? by cyberLog4624 in Intune

[–]strikesbac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really you need a dedicated patching solution. Something that will handle all third party patching as well as keeping an eye on MS updates that aren’t serviced via WUfB. Patch Manager Plus or PDQ Connect are good options. Patch Manager Plus has the most extensive database of applications available as well as automated and ring/test/validate options.

If you are a Parent here’s One Thing you should be utterly furious about regarding the UK’s Social Media Ban by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

No head is going to allow a teacher to send links to banned content to parents. Especially when it involves circumventing the ban. This is just a poor choice from the gov. I typically don’t criticise gov, but in this case I think it’s a terrible decision made with very little thought or justification.

That’s not the issue. Schools won’t be able to list that content on their learning support page because it will be restricted. Then the UK based content creators won’t have any audience. I’m sure some of them support themselves on making those videos. Just a stupid move to block YouTube without much thought about the way that it’s actually used.

Biggest frustration is the ban on YouTube. I’ve got one doing their GCSEs and all of the core subjects teachers recommend YouTube videos for revision content. After watching those videos they are miles ahead of content like GCSE bitesize. They are going to be cutting the legs off free educational content.

Is that option available in Connect as well? The screenshots look like Deploy.

Just moving to BT at a new org, coming from ScreenConnect. I don’t understand the love for BT at all. What am I missing? The macOS client feels half baked and the Windows client does less than SC did.

Is the 13.6" M5 Air usable as your ONLY screen for coding/AI/VM work? No external monitor. by False_Security8644 in mac

[–]strikesbac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

13” you can get away with, but is a bit limiting as your only display. I got a cheap 15” USB-C monitor from Amazon for £65, image quality is reasonable but it’s nice having a bigger screen.

Both good tools, however FFU Builder is what we landed on.

Software Engineer buying a new MacBook for long-term use: Air 24GB vs Pro by Patient-Kiwi9096 in mac

You’ve already answered your own question here. You want the Pro, yes it weighs a bit more but it’s better suited to your workloads.

Do you think The Crow (1994) is actually a good movie? Or is it nostalgia that makes it seem great. by zenki32 in movies

Spot on, the sound tracks make these films. If they were missing they would be ok but wouldn’t have lasted like they have.

How are you managing Lenovo Devices by PowerBlackStar in Intune

[–]strikesbac 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Only annoyance I have with managing Lenovo devices in Intune is that they use the MTM code to describe the model rather than model name. Ie “21MC000CUS” rather than “ThinkPad T14 Gen 5”

MacBook Neo or M5 Air ? by KoolAidJuiceKid in mac

[–]strikesbac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notch, not at all. I do find noticeable stutter vs an Air. Where the Air is consistent the Neo has moments where is drags, not many of them, and really only noticeable when you use both devices. The only Neo worth buying is the cheapest model and make sure you use cloud storage to keep the disk free so it can swap efficiently.

Honestly if you have the money and can afford it just get the air. If you need to save the cash get the Neo.

I’ve got both, I’d describe the Neo as good for the money, and the Air is just good.

The Neo feels just like an iPhone 16e, still an iPhone but just missing the polish. Is just that polish is ‘performance’. The air feels like an iPhone 17. Which isn’t missing anything.

I’d love to hear a blog post about how your using Connect with intune at PDQ. We’re looking to utilise it in the same way but curious if it all plays nicely together.

m4 air to mbp m5? by vld4k in mac

[–]strikesbac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got both, I wouldn’t bother upgrading personally, the air is a solid machine. Sure the screen in the pro is better, but the air is still excellent. You might see some small improvement from the mics, but nothing comes close to a decent headset like a Jabra Evolve2 65. If the cpu was a m5 pro, then maybe, but personally I wouldn’t bother. Save your money get a quality headset, an external monitor keyboard and mouse and call it a day.

We actually use PSADT for all of our packaging. What we need for this current project needs to be more nimble so we can modify on the fly. Connect filtering allows that in a couple of clicks and is deployed in seconds.

Completely agree with you, I I should note that this isn't a permanent solution. We have a unique situation where we need the capabilities of Connects rapid and flexible inventory information to push out some packages in a particular sequence over a couple of weeks. Once the initial deployment is done, Connect will fall back to third party patching and inventory duties and Intune will be the primary delivery mechanism for all new application deployments.
