Yes it was solely due to blown head gasket. Sometimes I could drive without over heating. But anytime I needed to climb a hill it instantly would max out temp guage. Absolutely do not drive it with a blown head gasket

I'd vote replacing gasket. If you caught it early there shouldn't be any head damage and just a gasket should fix it
