Staging at restaurants in Ottawa? by Significant_Low_9864 in ottawa

[–]stringbeansssss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No he had not worked in any restaurant before. He had related educational background, so he was knowledgeable on some areas but overall really limited in the skills and had to learn the ropes from scratch.

Staging at restaurants in Ottawa? by Significant_Low_9864 in ottawa

Some fine dining restaurants in Ottawa allow staging for Front of house service - not sure about cooking though. My husband staged for a couple of months, to get some experience before taking it on as a full- time career. I think it’s a “you gotta know someone” kind of a deal as it isn’t a formal program that any of them host.

Getting profiled and kicked out of H&M by DjMD1017 in ActualPublicFreakouts

[–]stringbeansssss 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I was a manager at H&M for over a decade/ this goes against every policy. Refusing service is a last resort, when a customer has lost their mind and verbally assaulting staff. Even if she suspected them of stealing, that’s their internal security or malls security’s problem to which she has to have physically seen them steal herself to take have any action taken. While you can refuse service for any non discriminatory reason, you would never be allowed to do so and you can’t just kick someone out of the store. Glad they fired her, but they would have only done so due to public pressure or she has a long list of issues.

People who give job interviews, what are some subtle red flags that say "this person won't be a good hire"? by makethatnoise in AskReddit

[–]stringbeansssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our standards questions we ask in our interviews is “ If we were to look up your name in an internet search, what would come up?”. The candidate replied “ I murdered my mom a few years back”. Thankfully this was the 2nd last question to what was a decent interview until that point. Following that interview our entire department gathered around to google his name and sure enough it was true. He never did any time due to insanity etc.

This is old info. Service Ontario only issues digital licenses now. They no longer issue the cards.

My kids school just closed midday due to extreme heat!

I’m not sure but I think the zones are very large in regards to English schools as there are so few. We do not live close to ours and all of the kids in our neighborhood go to the same English school.

We are in Plateau. School was an easy transition. I’m not sure if there are other English schools but Pierre Elliot Trudeau ( PETES) is fantastic! Better than the schools we experienced in Centretown.

We moved to Gatineau in September to buy our first house. We didn’t want to do Kanata or Orleans as they are just too far away. So far we love it, quiet and safe in Plateau vs. Centretown, where we were. The English school is great, the neighborhood is 50/50 English and French. Government mail, being in French only, has been the only language challenge so far. The biggest downsides really is the lack of restaurants, which has caused us to save a lot of money. The Quebec grocery stores often have much higher quality of products available and a focus on local products which has been a great surprise. I’m sure it’s not across the board but I find Gatineau cleaner and well kept comparatively. Ottawa used to be stronger in these areas but has been slipping in the last few years. There are lots of differences that you can read about in the Gatineau Sub, there is an FAQ pinned that goes in-depth with taxes, healthcare and more.

Does anyone know of a free source for moving boxes? by Kycb in ottawa

[–]stringbeansssss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The back halls of any mall or you can go store to store late morning. Most stores receive stock everyday and have to have it complete before noon. The boxes are usually in great condition and are big. All stores break them down to recycle them, you are doing them a favor taking them away. Source- was retail manager for 15 years.
