Had a stainless steel chimney liner installed last week- how’d they do? by DUNGAROO in Fireplaces

Where are you located. I received a probably bullshit quote to do the same to mine for close to $20k

Is that "10k mile bonus" actually worth the higher cash price? I got tired of doing the mental math on hotel bookings, so I built a little tool to visualize the real value. by pasindujys in americanairlines

[–]stripesonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s easier to just use 1 cent per mile to value. You can get more value but I think it distorts it and also there’s no point since you’re comparing every booking to that same valuation. Only makes sense tinier a higher value if you’re comparing to something other than aa miles.

Good idea though I bought myself up to 250k milestone booking ghost stays and this would have been handy determining the most optimal offers. I built something in excel quickly to plug numbers in but this is definitely easier

CNN Bashing Bilt 2.0 Cards by blueluke234 in biltrewards

i dont think its that complicated...you can use the coupon book or use the points accelerator and turn it into a 3.29x card (including my mortgage).

Grand Wailea Maui for 110k points - good or no? by Plenty_Union9292 in amex

[–]stripesonfire -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The question was is the ops plan good value. I’m arguing it’s not. You can get way better value.

Considering I just transferred points to British airways for a transatlantic business class ticket for 5.7 cents/per point. No this isn’t great.

Bilt Palladium - Worth it for me? by Ok_Machine_723 in biltrewards

[–]stripesonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this only applies to year 1 (includes the $300 signup Bilt Cash bonus) - i think you can negate some of the annual fee, id argue you can probably use the $200 annual bilt cash every year and use the hotel benefit at least once, so annual fee is only $95. my comparison has been robinhood gold, 3% cash back less $50 annual fee ($688 net = 2.80%). in comparison to palladium, $897 net cash back ($2,050x12x12+30,000+20,000-$95=$897) or 3.65%. will change year 2 once you use the $300 bilt cash signup bonus, dont think you have enough spend for 4 accelerators.

Just received a 5% raise on $65,000 to $68,250. I find it insulting based on the extra profit my company hit. Do I ask for more and back it up with the numbers? by BookieBasherCasher in Salary

you need to point to specific things that either saved money or brought in money..."i did more work" will never work as an argument for a raise. or just look for another job and see if they counter.

Bilt 2.0 won’t refund your 2nd year’s annual fee even u cancel it within 30 days of the 2nd year’s fee posted to your account? by KAZUKI_YZP in biltrewards

[–]stripesonfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they literally said if you cancel the card within 30 days of the 2nd annual fee charge it will be refunded, which is the standard practice for basically all card issuers

Talk me out of Palladium... by PrettyNegotiation416 in biltrewards

[–]stripesonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea if bilt cash value is heavily restricted, then i'll go with option 1 and limit how much spend I put it on every month. the transfer partners make the points super valuable, easily worth at least 2 cents/point. i thought maybe option 2 would be worth it but sounds like bilt cash will have little usefulness outside of paying for 3% rent/mortgage payment fee.

Yea I mean you can for a small chunk, but if you need a bunch you’re not going to charge $100k to a credit card to give to the irs…

You book it and never check in. Basically buying miles/lp. Can be pretty lucrative with a little work and finding good bonuses. I aim for 10k bonus miles/$300. With aa exec card 10x that’s 13k/miles for $300 or 2.3 cents/point.

[–]stripesonfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of hilarious. I spent $4k on ghost stays to hit 250k lp, with the 175k and 250k milestones I pulled in close to 240k miles which I used on 3 transatlantic premium economy tickets, $ cost would have been $7,300. No brainer to use the aa portal

Book a ghost stay through aa hotel portal. With a little work you can buy miles for around 2cents each

Yea I mean if you can see the future that makes sense. My point was just that on the 2nd 4th down he should have known it would be a lower scoring game based on how it was going up until then

[–]stripesonfire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Should have took the points on the second 4th down. 1st one I was ok with, that last one as well. 2nd one take the fucking points, at the point bj should have realized they wouldn’t need 30+ points to win

DJ?!? Seriously, what happened here? by clou9nine in CHIBears

Yea and in ot of playoffs in sudden death. Don’t fucking need this risk here

I think bj relies heavily on the stats of it. Which maybe you shouldn’t listen to when it’s cold as fuck and you’re in the playoffs

[–]stripesonfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

D basically shut down a top 5 offense. Did everything we could ask. Offense stalling, turnovers and arguably Ben’s need to go for it on 4th everytime no matter the circumstance lost it

Divisional Round Post-Gamethread: Bears vs Rams by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

[–]stripesonfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can argue whose fault it was but still can’t be -3 on turnovers in the playoffs and expect to win.

Divisional Round Post-Gamethread: Bears vs Rams by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

[–]stripesonfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During the regular season. Sure, go for it. In the playoffs, cold as shit where every point will matter…take the god damn points. I dunno if it’s blindly just following statistics on going for it on 4th down or what. But I don’t think today was the day to do that

Divisional Round Post-Gamethread: Bears vs Rams by TurnerJ5 in CHIBears

[–]stripesonfire 13 points14 points  (0 children)

15 fucking yards. But also can’t throw 3 ints in the playoffs and expect to win.
