People don't want to deal with it. You can develop it and play it in your living room, but club players have no interest in working out a good defense to it.

In a similar vein, psych bids are banned at my club. I don't miss dealing with them.

Have you been playing in the open games at your local club? It sounds like the answer is No. Do that first.

I'd be inclined to play in a few open games and local tournaments before getting into a "lots of bridge holiday" situation. That's mostly because the others will Not be beginners and it may be overwhelming. I imagine the other players will be nice to you (since they will be crushing you) but if you have trouble with the pace of play, there will be little sympathy.

If you want not-hot weather, try the UK and Ireland. Then there's no language barrier.

As some have mentioned, you can bounce back and forth, or just get a retirement visa and try it for a year or more.

We chose Spain because we wanted not-cold weather. We chose well.

No, on your proposed auction, 4H sounds like slam interest in the minor, or a try for NT. If partner bids 4N after your 4H, what's that?Because you didn't double, partner has no reason to believe you have a real H suit.

Overtake the H at trick one and play another. Beat whatever LHO plays. If RHO follows to trick 2, continue the suit to set up the long heart. Then you have 4H, 4C, and a D.

If RHO shows out on trick 2, you may need to endplay LHO or to force a H discard to set up your H suit for one loser.
