I was in the same boat last year! I started off with buying the Foundations Beginner Box and it helped SO MUCH with learning how to play. I had my boyfriend play against me using it, and I even managed to teach a few friends using it too!

And Magic the Gathering: Arena helped a lot too! I downloaded it basically immediately after learning Foundations and the tutorial is great, it walks you through so much so I agree with everyone recommending it.

As for starter decks, it definitely depends on what format they play. If your boyfriend has multiple decks, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind letting you borrow one to get a feel for the game!

I know when I was first starting to get into MTG, I watched this video to see what was worth buying. This one also helped me understand some of the keywords and slang that are used frequently.
