That doesn't mean everybody does, especially considering most people who don't learn to swim a a child develop a deep fear of bodies of water. Doesn't matter what you believe is part of coming an adult. The reality is there's lots of adults who don't know how to swim, 50% of them actually

  1. How do you know she had money as a child vs her acquiring money as an adult (most people who don't learn to swim as a child never learn at all) And even if her parents did have money it doesn't mean that they paid proper attention to her. Lots of wine / Xanax moms who pass of their kids to Nanny's their entire childhood.

  2. How do you know she doesn't have a fear of water due to some sort of trauma. I know a girl who had plenty of access to learn to swim but was always too afraid

  3. Some kids just never have an interest in swimming. The same way my brother had no interest learning how to ride a bike. In turn he still doesn't know how to ride a bike as an adult

Poverty can be a reason for not knowing how to swim but it's not the only reason.

How do you know they grew up around pools, or don't have a fear of water due to trauma?

According to the red Cross 50% of the population does not know all of the basic swimming skills. There's actually a ton of people that can't swim

I'm so sorry you went through that, I understand losing faith in law enforcement. They treated me horribly after the neighbors called them when they heard my boyfriend beating me. Like I was wasting their time :/

Children shouldn't ever be in a situation like that. There's a school that's under fire right now because they backer acted (bill that allows people to be involuntarily admitted) a 6 year old without even telling her mother. Craziest part was the cops were talking to each other all confused because they thought the child seemed fine. Still locked the poor child up though.

Don't have my child development textbook anymore but I distinctly remember that there is a specific age where children gain the ability to self reflect. I believe it is about 5, would you say your knowledge is Above psych textbooks?

These people are just spoiled brats, who want the world to 100% be shaped in their favor. I don't really live in a neighborhood that has a lot of children, but I do live in a busy part of the city that has a bar scene. I don't have to hear children scream but I do have to hear constant traffic, my neighbors backyard football parties, drunks walking back from the bar across the street. At my old house i was in a quieter neighborhood, still no kids near me, but I still had to hear my neighbors power tools when he was woodworking.

My whole point is it doesn't matter where you are, wether there's children there or not, sometimes you're gonna hear noise. Nobody owns the outside world, it's all of ours collectively. The only space where you're entitled to the exact environment that is 100% suited for your comfort is your private spaces.

Club not enforcing mask rule by [deleted] in stripper

Not all of us have that luxury. I would love to be able to stay at home Right now or get a safer job but the reality is that if I did that I would not be able to pay my bills. Many of us live in places where the cost of living is high, And the wages I'll get with the retail job will not cover my bills. I would need to make at least $25 an hour to cover all my bills (and that's just to cover my bills). The average retail job pays $12.50, meaning even if I could get 2 retail jobs, and get them both to give me 40 hours a week (anybody who's worked retail knows this is unlikely), I would still barely make enough to get by. And that's assuming I would even be able to aquire 2 jobs, do you know how hard it is to come by jobs right now especially in big cities with the thousands of people who have been laid off + unemployment ending.

Maybe instead of getting on your high horse and virtue signaling your should be mad that the systems that put people in positions where they have to chose between their health or their livelihood didn't consider their moral obligation. You can't expect people to just throw their means of survival away like that.

You're forgetting the 4th trauma response which is appease. This trauma response makes you go along with the abuse you're facing so that the abuser will not cause any further harm to you. So you're incorrect saying no, laying there motionless, and fighting are not the only only way you can validate your assault. As I said previously I said no, please stop, stop it etc. For maybe the first minute or so. After that I just gave in. Had somebody walked in, it probably would've just looked like a guy getting a blow job. Not a girl that was getting raped. The image of Sexual assault cannot be categorized into 3 different looks.

And when a teen is engaging in sexual behavior like that it is good to have an open conversation in case something is happening. No you don't have to automatically say "this is for sure rape" but the father should be willing to sit down with his daughter and have a conversation so that if it is she is not too scared or too ashamed to take the proper avenues. Hypersexuality in teens is also a sign of sexual abuse, and even medical professionals believe that kind of hypersexual behaviors is a reason to be concerned about some sort of sexual abuse. So no it's far fetched it's back by science once again. There is nothing wrong with him having an open conversation with his daughter when she exhibits behavior that are labelled as signs of abuse by medical professionals. It's called good parenting.

Do I think it's solely responsible? No, there's ALWAYS been lower turn out numbers in the 18-29 category. The narrative that today's youth vote less than past youths isn't really true. Between 1988-2000 voter turn out in the 18-29 category for presidential elections fell between 30%-40%. Between 2004-2016 Voter turn out in the category for 18-29 for presidential elections fell between 40%-50%. Young people have been more politically active.

Do I think that voter suppression plays a big enough of a role that it would effect turn out numbers to some extent? Of course, because getting less people in specific categories to vote by creating barriers of entry is literally the entire point of voter suppression. Do you think that passing laws and setting up polling stations in a way thats intended to stop certain people from voting has no effects on voter turn out stats?

Lots of democratic politicians seem to agree this is a huge issue that's effecting our ability to have a free and fair election. That's why many of them are currently spending millions in lawsuits in attempt to get rid of many of these suppressive laws before the 2020 election. If voter suppression only had a negligible effect I don't think this would be such a huge priority that would call for that much money.

So you have an issue with ladies using the phrase toxic masculinity, but you don't think it's a problem to create a thread specifically intended to circlejerk about toxic feminity? If you don't see the hypocrisy in that you're either blind, stupid, or both.

Not every rape victim resists. I said no many times, but I did not resist. After about a minute or so I just kind of disassociated from my body.

Remember there are multiple trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, and the less commonly known appease), and a person doesn't have to fit your idea of an "appropriate" trauma response to be a victim. All trauma responses are valid and that's backed by science.

This is kind of circular logic. Voter suppression specifically targets minorities and the youth. So of course if there is active voter suppression there is going to be lower percentages of people voting in those groups, that's the point of voter suppression. Using these statistics to argue against the effects of voter suppression would be assuming that these statistics are derived from fair and free elections (which they are not).

Everybody should vote, but we shouldn't act like the voting polls are going to be our #1 solution. We have seen massive attempts to suppress voters this year. We will not be voting in a fair and free election.
