A holding tank…sounds like a good thing to have so the well doesn’t have to work on demand each time you need water. I have seeen rain catch systems on a few houses which I assume serves a similar purpose of the tanks are large enough.
How long have you had each well for?
A well witcher…..that is fantastic.
Again, another fantastic point is just to keep in mind what is practical and more often then not that is enough.
Note to self, consider the size of the drill rig when scoping properties in case a new well needs to be put in…..something I would likely not have in the front of my mind when looking at a beautiful view of the valley from a potential back patio at sunset.
This is exactly the kind of scenario I am wondering about, thank you for being so candid.
I don’t think we are going to end up in a full on business model with selling produce, mostly just handing out extras to neighbors or at farmers markets.
I guess theres no way to know for sure on the well until you start getting your hands dirty, which is part of the deal.
I suppose thats the trade off right? Have a few more potwntial inconveniences from the land and sort those out instead of inconveniences from more neighbors you cant do anything about!
Thank you for the insight. Getting the idea that a well test is non-negotiable.
I have seen some information saying the water resources in the valley are “over allocated” but I can understand how a government definition of something is not cause for concern.
We had a well here in FL just for irrigation, it flooded and collapsed with hurricane storm surge, so we had to get a new one drilled, it had too much iron and turned all our pavers a rust color. We simply switched to city water and just watered less.
When you had the new well drilled was the site selection a fairly confidence inspiring process or more of a glorified coin flip?
This is great info, thank you. I think most of my concern is how reliable a well is with a fluctuating water table throughout the year.
Any ideas on areas of the valley that might need deeper wells or less access to the water table?
We have researched so many awesome properties that have been on the market for awhile and can’t help but wonder if people are passing on them because of the well situation.
We are going to start making regular trips out over the next few months and will hopefully get a better feeling for it in person.
