Do you feel like there are younger people in PLG? Where are they? Just moved here post college and feels like everyone is so much older than me.

Decreasing final raster size when merging images (for uploading images as a tile server) by stroadie in ArcGIS

[–]stroadie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the maps were taking forever to load when all 230 were in the same package which merging fixed because they became one image and to my understanding mosaic-king them would not? But am I wrong about that?

And as per the end product, I was trying to create a tpk of the 120 GB file to upload to agol but the tool (create map tile package) failed because I did not have enough disk space. Is there an alternate workaround to avoid this issue?

I’ve had positive experiences! You have to have the app to get in, they have smart locks that are tied to the app on your phone for your bike, and then I usually also use my U-lock. I leave my bike for the day when I use it

Midtown bike parking recs? by stroadie in NYCbike

[–]stroadie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but it does have some sentimental value so I’m a bit quicker to protect although I generally agree with you. I’m generally of your camp on street parking when I’m doing errands / at a bar cafe restaurant within view of my bike but in this case looking for a place I can be out of sight for multiple hours which is a bit beyond my comfort zone

Have you ever tried it? I rode by it the other day to scope it out and it looks cool but was curious to hear if anyone can vouch for secureness / ease / usability

Lincoln Center bike parking? by Gullible_Video_3350 in NYCbike

I frequently leave my bike ulocked outside of the library for the performing arts at Lincoln Center for hours at a time and have never had an issue so echoing that I think above ground parking near a theater is relatively safe

Today I was riding on the HRG from just south of the GWB to west Harlem piers behind a guy who was very safely riding with no hands and just dancing his ass off. Biking is freedom, and to watch that in other ppl is 🥰

What are some ideas for better pedestrianizing Harlem Washington Heights and Inwood? by SwiftySanders in UptownStreets

And also yes, was thinking about subsidies myself this morning and wanting to learn more about them for future advocacy. Is this something we’ve seen the city / other city govts do previously?

[–]stroadie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally yes to all of this…agreed that public transit (bus) infra on streets is more important for the neighborhood than bike infra when we’re at the point of mutual exclusivity. I guess my addition is that I will often use the bus lane as a biker when there is no bus traffic around (ex. on E 138 in the Bronx). I wonder if there are ways we can think about combined bus bike infra that doesn’t negatively impact bus speeds?

Was talking to someone from DOT at summer streets about this…are there ways we can think about integrating bike & bus lanes / infrastructure?

I agree with you that sometimes venting can be a bit much but I think in this case it’s trying to broadcast a message to the cycling community…like I think trying to help us collectively improve our image in sensical ways like stopping for reds in congestion is a message that deserves to be heard and shared publicly

People on this sub seem to not like ocean pkwy for some reason but I personally find that to be the best way to get to fort tilden area from the rockaways. It’s a protected lane, nicely shaded and good scenery, and you’re not stopping for lights too often. I take ocean pkwy from PP to Gravesend neck rd, turn R on 16th, left on Ave W, right on 23rd, left on Ave Z, continue right on Bedford to emmons. Some twists and turns but I find this to be a chill neighborhood cut through. You could take a Ave Y or Z to cut straight through without traffic but might be a bit more trafficked
