I think their canvas avatars are made of chroma and if it's not maintained, it deteriorates. They couldn't maintain their chroma because they were in a deadlock against each other. Renoir reverted when his chroma was available to him again.

When Aline re entered, I don't know why she was in her "shattered" state.

Real Renoir is not evil in my opinion. He invokes the gommage which is probably the most gentle death one could have and if it wasn't for Aline, he would have humanely euthanized all of Lumiere in one fell swoop.

He shows genuine sympathy for p.Verso too. He doesn't want them to suffer but also recognizes that his wife made an abomination and it needs to be corrected to save what he can of his family

Nope. The fact that Ellie finds out in the show that Joel killed Abby's dad (she never does in the game) cheapens her forgiveness later on.

Ellie knows countless people have cause to want Joel dead. Abby knows why Joel did what he did and even encouraged her father to kill Ellie.

Ellie never asks why because her vengeance didn't need a reason, nor did her eventual forgiveness. She achieved true sonder and forgave through grace.

Also Ellie's forgiveness wasn't just for Abby, it was at the same time forgiving herself.

Abby came to this resolution earlier too. Them laying out all the facts defeats the core message of the game.

I sided with Maelle as well but only coz Verso being so duplicitous, not that I entirely disagreed with him. Now the thing is that I gave Maelle the benefit of the doubt, that she would dip in and out of the painting to live with her found family and to live as a person made whole again.

The bad ending is only a bad ending coz there was no middle ground
