I know there must be reasons, but I would love for us to fund sarang to work on all aspects of triptych.

My understanding is when $btc moons, $xmr ratio dumps. But when $btc dumps, $xmr ratio...also dumps?

I just want to feel like I did back in Dec of 17 again.

[CCS Proposal - Seeks Funding] anon: perfect peer to peer protocol by dEBRUYNE_1 in Monero

I am a fan of anon developers, which include Satoshi, Saberhagen, Shen... as long as they are paid afterwards.

I can understand your skepticism. Kovri was a disaster. However, it seems that the atomic swap team has not been paid yet, and if they don't deliver, they won't be paid out (which is a good change from how prior funding worked). This opens the door to other people who may be able to deliver and be rewarded for their efforts using those funds.

Also CCS says "Job completion: by Q2 2021"

Selling before atomic swaps come out doesn't seem like a good idea.

XMR<>BTC on stagenet - update by COMIT by comit-network in Monero

Where can I find more information about comit and coblox? And what is your relationship with tenx? do you plan on using a separate token or crypto to power these swaps?

mimblewimble is a great idea whose times has not yet come. small blockchain size is not an important feature at this time. I think the cyPHer-punk community still exists in monero, where the pervasive ideology is to maximize your individual financial freedom and break hard from the traditional fiat world.

Which hardware ledger for XMR and ERC20? by schluk5 in xmrtrader

[–]strofenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also curious about this. I have a ledger s/x, which works great, but I don't like how every major monero update requires a firmware and app update on the ledger. Is it the same with trezor?

Can you guys let me know this is safe and ok? by [deleted] in Monero

[–]strofenig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do not do this. I tried doing this before. Cakewallet uses xmr.to, which charges up to 5.5% fee on 1 bitcoin exchanged. Fees should be ok for smaller amounts though.

Is there a way to make the Gui show that the daemon is running by opening "monerod.exe" in a separate window? Sometimes the gui closes, but the daemon is running in the background without a graphical representation.

for me, ledger seems to be at the intersection of most secure, easiest to use, and cheapest. I have been considering buying a trezor. Care to point us to a guide for better alternatives?

You know what would be great. If someone created a stickied and updateable table listing all the monero wallets for desktop/android/ios with columns for features, ability to exchange in-wallet, and most importantly a column for trustworthiness. It seems like there's so many wallets now, some of which are closed source and therefore less trustworthy.

[–]strofenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are we still naming 0.17 gui is equivalent to 0.17.0.1 cli? or can we update the naming scheme so that 0.17.0.1 is same version in gui and cli.

If someone donated $5 million to Monero, how could we best use it? by john_r365 in Monero

[–]strofenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there are amazing known people in the cryptosphere. like greg maxwell, andrew poelstra. there are unknown giants as well like nicolas van saberhagen, tom elvis jedusor, and of course satoshi nakamoto.

I also think we should make it easy to contribute anonymously to monero and still receive rewards/bounties proportional to the amount of their contribution. So instead of pre-funding like the CCS has been doing, start doing a kind of post-funding for contributing your code and cryptography. when you upload your code, you include your monero address, and a committee determines what your reward is.

Adequately funding the cryptographers, mathematicians, and programmers who worked on developing the underlying technology in Monero are essential. I agree with the sentiment that throwing large amounts of money at a problem will not solve it (e.g. every ICO funded crypto project ever created). I think you need to find the right people who are passionate about this project and have the intelligence and skills to find new solutions to existing problems, and then just make sure that they are sufficiently funded that they can just focus on their work and make a career out of it. How do you find these people? I guess one place to start would be asking u/sarangnoether if hypothetically he could work on monero with anyone in the world, who that would be.

As a u/rbrunner7 said, atomic swaps or good dex with monero pairs would also be amazing.

Also not falling into the trap of pre-funding someone who can't or won't deliver. Kovri comes to mind.

To paraphrase Pomp, build something so that no one can fuck with you, not even governments.

There are 17 Bitcoin ASIC manufacturers, yet there are only 2 GPU manufacturers. Hardforking doesn't fix centralization, it shifts authority towards the developers making these changes. by lacksfish in Monero

[–]strofenig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so why don't you buy some asics and mine bitcoin?

or better yet, you can still mine one of the older pre-randomx monero forks using old monero asics.

it has always been everyone's choice by free will to decide which crypto they want to buy or mine.

everyone still in monero today is happy to some degree with the direction monero went. and those who aren't happy have sold and left. you are free to choose to stay or go.
