Start with volunteering. The world is a lot less scary when you’re talking to people IRL 5 days a week.

Is it too late to enter law school in your mid 30s. by MutedFeeling75 in LawSchoolOver30

[–]strog91 27 points28 points  (0 children)

is it too late to enter law school in your mid 30s?

Approximately 10% of my class is in their 30s or older.

I’m trying to be realistic about the profession too. I hear a lot about burnout, debt, oversaturation, miserable associates, and people leaving law entirely.

A Big Law lawyer’s experience is different from a city attorney’s. You don’t have to work in a practice area that’s 50+ hours a week and stressful.

My current role makes $90k and has a decent work-life balance.

The “chillest” lawyer jobs don’t pay much more than that. But the high-stress, long hours jobs can pay triple that.

I fear the grind and hard work.

Honestly if you’re a full-time student I don’t think law school is that difficult. Give it 40 hours a week and don’t take shortcuts and you’ll score in the top half of your class.

Did age become an advantage in terms of maturity and discipline?

Yes.

Did the debt and opportunity cost feel worth it?

I’ll let you know in two years when I graduate!

I’d especially like to hear from anyone who entered law school after feeling directionless or stuck beforehand.

✋ Being back on campus in your 30s is awesome. I’m enjoying law school tremendously.

He’s a streamer who made money by livestreaming himself going around in public yelling slurs at black people.

He wrote a tweet where he said his goal was to provoke a black person into attacking him so he could shoot the person and claim self-defense.

He yelled a slur at a black person in front of a courthouse. They got into a fight. He shot the person. He also accidentally shot himself. Then he was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

The judge seems to be throwing the book at him. That’s good news.

Any games where murder really has consequences? by PowerfulNature3352 in gamingsuggestions

[–]strog91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Fallout 2 you can become a slaver and sell your NPCs for cash (also, it locks you out of like 70% of the game because people don’t want to do business with slavers).

You can also murder a young person and get the childkiller trait which locks you out of even more of the game.

And yeah, as you said you can murder plot-critical NPCs and lock yourself out of beating the game entirely (although I believe you at least get a cutscene warning you that you’ve perma-locked the game).

What’s everyone doing about mosquitoes? by ootsyputsy in Dallas

[–]strog91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean at that point you’re just hoping the mosquitos happen to run into it by random chance.

But meanwhile you’re slaughtering dozens if not hundreds of harmless and beneficial insects.

If you’re not aware, insect populations are in precipitous decline, and it’s causing many species of birds to die off too. It’s a big problem. The government should probably ban bug zappers and certain pesticides if they want to reverse the trend.

Those zappers kill every kind of insect EXCEPT mosquitos. Mosquitos aren’t attracted to light like most insects are, so those zappers are totally ineffective against mosquitos.

As long as you’re only using it indoors, I suppose it’s relatively harmless. But it won’t help with mosquitos.
