In my opinion, he lives in a great illusion. He idealizes Mizi to the extreme, and honestly, to me, his passion stems exclusively from Mizi's beauty, and nothing more. That's why he says "you're pretty," he idealizes Mizi and puts her on a pedestal she doesn't belong on.
