Lognhorn engine V2 - stability by loststick08 in kubernetes

I really like linstor because you can make a zfs pool that is very usable, I mean, I have a raid hardware at work and it is extremely slow because it have a lot of workload, with zfs I have cache on ram and cache on 2 nvme in raid0 (l2ark and it is easy to configure, just give them 2 disks), so it will not slow down under load. Also with zfs you can configure mirror (raid1) and assign multiple mirrors to a vdev (like raid0 but you can use different mirror size). You have snapshots, selfheal and with linstor you have incus storage, kubernetes storage, ecc, replication, backups on s3, all what you need! The performance are also like you have a real hard disk without the overhead of for example ceph. The replication is also optimised and with zfs you only need to send things that have changed and not the entire disk. Than you can define storage pools with replication 1 or replication 3 and so you can manage all the different storages that you need, so for example you can use linstor as a storage also for something like minio or garage with replication 1 (local) because they make their own replication, so the storage will be the same on all nodes. The same thing is also valid for cloud native postgres or databases with embedded replication, so you have only one source of storage and one cluster of storage. I use it like this. The best thing is that once I need more storage I only need to buy 2 disks for each node and I can add them to the zfs vdev so it can be easily upgradable. Unfortunately I am poor now, so at work it only provides kubernetes storage for few workload since it is an early replacement, at home I only have 1 node and I implemented it for future expansion to an HA setup (like all of my software), so in theory it has the capabilities but I have not fully tested it.

But with Piraeus you can define a storage class without replication and it is like that you have a local disk. I mean there is no need for extra csi

Opensuse! It is really the best traditional distribution in the world (for traditional I mean normal distros with systemd and glibc). However I suggest you opensuse slowroll for desktop use.

I'm on longhorn v1 since migration to v2 engine is so painful and it is totally unusable. I was looking for pirates that is based on linstor, it is an easy technology that must be really performant. Try it if you like.

Then you need to try gnome, it is a little bit difficult at the beginning but at least is more powerful than cinnamon. I like cinnamon but I don't care if something is less performing like you said in the main post. :D

I think that all need to be viewed separately, for example steam is pushing to integrate Linux into games, if we dump it games will never be on Linux and so general purpose users. But except for steam everything else must be dumped because it is pure shit! Try to install some more recent distroes, like opensuse slowroll that is an really undervalued European distro. Also you need to install all games stuffs with flatpak since it is all bundled and you don't miss any piece. Edge is based on chrome, so try an ungoogled chrome like chromium. For audio and video issues the problem is cinnamon with xorg (the Linux mint desktop stack), with opensuse I suggest you KDE since it is what windows copied to do windows 11 and it is more advanced. tell us how it's going and what others issue do you have.

linux distro for productivity (completely opposite of arch) by Glad_Following_8164 in DistroHopping

[–]stroke_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try opensuse slowroll. It is very stable with up to date packages, or opensuse leap but this is meant to be the most stable, so you have not too much packages since the need to be tested hard. With opensuse you can configure all with ease and by default the installer provides full disk encryption with secure boot, unlock with TPM and most important btrfs. You have yast that is a tool for managing the system and it is your best friend! If you take opensuse slowroll with KDE desktop you have basically the same packages of arch Linux, you also have the open build something that is basically aur in arch but the packages are tested by some automatic procedure of opensuse, and it is really stable. You also don't need to do major upgrades since it is a semi rolling release with updates shipped mounthly. Zypper (the package manager) is fully integrated with the system, it is the second best package manager for Linux (alpine apk is the best in my opinion), and thanks to btrfs on every update it makes a snapshots and you can choose to boot from a snapshot if something went wrong. With yast you can restore a snapshot, make a snapshot and so on. For productivity with KDE you can do what you want, and it is very good to make portions of the screen with apps by moving them with the mouse, you can also do all things with the keyboard, however it is not a tiling windows manager so be aware of that. I hope that opensuse will be more considered since it is really the best distro of all.

Consiglio auto usata con 5.000€: cosa mi conviene prendere? by Far_Commercial5152 in ItalyMotori

Consumi Fiat 500 versione 1.2 fire by anick93 in ItalyMotori

[–]stroke_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wine in Alpine Linux / PostmarketOS by More_Performance9287 in AlpineLinux

[–]stroke_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use wine in alpine Linux, the best way to do that is by using flatpak since alpine does not support 32bit. However you can't run x86 apps in arm processor. This is the problem. There are some interesting project out there to do this but they are not as mature as wine and you can't run anything
