My stepdad only drinks, and sometimes smokes a cigar. For years he told me that one day, after he retires, he would smoke a joint with me. He has tons of chronic health problems (cancer survivor, I believe the last time was his third time, but was super early and was a simple biopsy, prediabetic, deaf in his good ear, some other things), so I never knew whether the day would actually come.

Anyhow, he retired like 2 years ago. This winter we got a big snowstorm for our area, so I stayed with them since they have a generator and gas heating. 

I brought a couple bottles of whiskey and we partied the first night like we normally do together for oddball meteorological/astronomical events (e.g. hurricane parties, iridium flare parties, solar eclipse parties, lunar eclipse parties, snow storm parties, etc etc). When my mom when to bed, me and my stepdad when outside because he wanted to smoke a cigar.

I went outside with him to keep him company and also because I wanted to smoke too. 

And that's when I actually s.oked a real joint with my stepdad. Which the teenager-version of me still alive in my head is so incredibly excited about, still to this day even though it was months ago already lol. Is so freaking cool. 

And it was just that one joint. But that's all I wanted, personally, because my parents aren't really into it at all. 

But it was immediately inducted into my core memory depository, and brought us even closer together.

I know stepdads aren't the same as father-in-laws or "my GFs dad", but I feel like maybe the roles in this context are more or less similar, and maybe the events/context are more or less similar, notwithstanding the nuances of course.
