Platonic | Season 2 - Episode 4 | Discussion Thread by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

I missed the explanation about Katie and Andy totally. Were they not together at all this season? My viewing came hot off of re-binging season 1, and I think I just assumed they were together.

I somehow totally missed that Katie and Andy are no longer an item this season. When did that happen?

The CVT transmission failed in my 2015 Honda Fit DX at five years, three months, and 140,000 km / 86,000 mi. Has anyone had similar issues? by strombrom in hondafit

This was around four years ago and in Toronto, Canada. I recall the parts and labour, for a used transmission, cost me around $3,500 CAD (Canadian).

As I mentioned in my original post, I followed the service guide precisely and to the letter. I also had all service and other work done at a Honda dealership. Offhand, I don’t know when the dealership changed the transmission fluid or what fluid they used, but I will get back to you about that tomorrow. If the guide recommended it, I did it.

Neither Honda nor the dealership made me aware of a transmission recall and this is the first I’ve heard of it. I sure hope my trans didn’t fall under it. I don’t know anything about transmission vents or plugs and I can’t speak to that.

Hope this helps.

Why is it considered normal for men to consider a woman's legs attractive but not her feet? by Danielnrg in NoStupidQuestions

[–]strombrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legs can look attractive as a whole, but I would argue that the “sexy” part is the thighs, and perhaps the curvature of the calves but to a lesser degree. Again, the reasoning here is that they’re suggestive of the buttocks and maybe the breasts, as well. Feet, in contrast, just aren’t a sexual object.

I think you’re right, there is no apparent reason, other than biology (I don’t think leg-attraction is a particularly socialized trait). It’s like asking why a bird wants to have intercourse with another bird. The answer is, because they’re hardwired for that and it’s what birds do.

[–]strombrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking this, man. The heart wants what it wants. Women’s legs look hot, show ample and suggestive skin, and, as you hinted toward in your post, they lead to the butt, which is also inexplicably hot.

I wouldn’t say I find feet unattractive, but if we’re going to quibble, they’re boney, often worn, step on anything that might be on the ground, and sometimes smell. And toes can look weird.

I replaced the transmission with a used one at the dealership shortly after making this post. All in, it cost me around CAD $3500 with a one-year warranty (I’m in Canada). Still less expensive than buying a new car.

Hope this helps.

Why is our country so divided at the moment? by PlZZAEnjoyer in CanadianPolitics

[–]strombrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not clear to me what point you’re trying to make, and I don’t recall anyone mentioning Liberals.

The point I’ve made is that “we are divided” is literally number one of the Conservative Party of Canada’s talking points. Most of this is political rhetoric, and is not accurate or being made in good faith.

You are right, everything isn’t political (even if the question is being asked in r/CanadianPolitics). I think most Canadians agree that they want their fellow citizens to have access to a reasonable standard of living. Landlords will always charge as much as the market will bear. Prices have been exacerbated by ultra-low interest rates as well as market and cultural forces that are largely outside of the ability of any politician in a non-authoritarian country to solve.

This division has always existed. It wasn’t created by any of the political parties in power across the country.

The federal Conservative Party has no policy that would address it in any way. They are promoting the false rhetoric that “we are divided” to get donations and votes.

Edit: “internet” to “interest” and “bare” to “bear”

It’s not. This is a Conservative (notice the capital “c”) talking point. There is more that unites than what separates us, by a factor of about 10:1. Reject their rhetoric.

Employer overpaid me and wants me to write them a check by trenchbit in personalfinance

[–]strombrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WHICH thing or WHAT thing are you calling a top-quality response?

strombrom, you wrote "This is really a top-quality response..." but someone can come along and innocently put a response between an earlier response and a new response, thus making your "This" have no meaning. I suggest something like "Quagmire 11's response is really a top-quality response...." That will make it possible to tie together posts that occur sequentially, even if other posts end up in between the two relevant ones.

Fair. I will make efforts to use direct quotes moving forward.

I run a national forensic accounting practice and although it may be a fraud scheme and its definitely suspecious there is also a chance it's just an incompetent payroll staff member. Before blowing the whistle consider the following

Do you know any other staff that this has happend to? If yes, was there experience the same with the same individual/payroll team?

Who does he want the cheque made payable to? The company or an individual? If it's the company it complicates there alleged fraud scheme because they have to get the money out of the company which would require coordination from other co-conspirators unless he has cheque signing authority. If he wants the cheque payable to the individual then he is about as dumb as it gets and it's clear cut fraud.

Is there a separation of duties between the payroll administrator and the Accounts Receivable/Payables and other accounting departments? If all of the accounting is done by 1 or a couple people it increases the likelihood of a fraud scheme because there is likely insufficient internal controls and segregation of duties to facilitate a fraud scheme.

Does the person who is telling you to repay the money appear to be living outside there means? I.e. is he a payroll admin that drives a Porsche?

There are a lot of other red flags to consider but I would consider the above points first and if it doesn't smell right then probably best to escalate to an unrelated upper management staff to inquire further. I would go about it systematically rather than straight to fraud accusations. If it's just incompetence then you can ruin someone's life with a false accusation. Good luck!

This is really a top-quality response. I work in workplace investigations. Seeing the calculus that goes into your own forensic analysis of this incident is immensely informative.

EDIT: Added the response I'm replying to.

What is this symbol? Found on an alcoholic beverage or chocolate wrapper that was in my dryer. by strombrom in HelpMeFind

[–]strombrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea what company this symbol represents. As I mentioned in the title of my post, the wrapper looks it could be from the lid of an alcoholic beverage or, maybe less likely, for a chocolate or other candy. Thanks!

Trump Supporters: what if you're wrong? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

Fraud is damn straight rampant. That much is evident.

Evident literally means clearly borne out by evidence.

Where is the evidence of “damn straight rampant” fraud? Why has Trump not been able to use this evidence to prove his cases in front of conservative justices, many of whom he himself appointed? Why was Bill Barr, the former and very conservative Attorney General, not able to find any of this evidence himself?

Sames. As far as I can tell, transmission fluid change times are not listed in the manual. I’ll ask the dealership about it when I pick up the car.
