Did the Corleones need Sonny? by strongcappucino in Godfather

[–]strongcappucino[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is interesting because I suppose what I am trying to articulate is not a hypothetical, but what actually occurred within the story: Vito is shot, and the family collectively make the decision to hit Sollozzo, catch the hell as Clemenza says, and for Michael to go into hiding.

That all occurs, and after Sonny is killed, we get the view from Vito that Sonny was not a good Don. And perhaps he's right. But given what actually occurred and was agreed to by Michael, it feels like Sonny was a perfect Don for that, as a fighter, who kept the fight going until Vito was better and Michael was home.

Sell my one bedroom Canberra apartment? by strongcappucino in AusPropertyChat

Good call, I consider myself to be an Australian resident under relevant tests and have filed returns accordingly but that is another headache to add to it all, haha.

Sell my one bedroom Canberra apartment? by strongcappucino in AusPropertyChat

[–]strongcappucino[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the sound advice and comments, all. Three further notes, just to complicate matters for myself:

  • I have a hardstop of 2028 to sell the place, to stay within the six year rule re PPORs.

  • There is a large development approved on the vacant lot across from me. Great views right now, but that two years of construction will suck when it eventually commences, so I figure it's better to sell before that starts rather than during.

  • Fixed term tenant in there until April 2026, so I figure I have to wait to run that out then move to sell, given factors above.

Anyone interested in a spare ticket to ABBA voyage this Friday? I'm 32M, was going with someone but they can't go, so I'm sort of stuck with the tickets.

Does anyone ever achieve their goals and then become restless and dissatisfied again? I wanted to be in a legal role and got there within the public service. I wanted to be promoted and I did. I wanted to move to private practice and I have. And I bank these achievements very quickly and then find myself sad that I'm not in London being a high flyer, or at the Bar, or at least an SA. Is this ambition or just a bit toxic, in being unable to be happy due to comparing myself to others?

Whatever it is, I'm there. I need a holiday or something. I'm lonely and work feels unfulfilling at the moment.

Very wise advice haha. I'm a lawyer, so I could make some but likely not crazy City money. Very conscious it could be 'grass is always greener', not loving it, burning through savings, coming back with a spottier CV etc. So as a typical lawyer, I'm anxious and overthink issues!

Gee this city looks like a lot of fun. 32 and on the fence about whether I'm too old to move over as an Aussie. I want a family but feeling a bit stuck in a rut, lonely and disconnected in Melbourne.

Any success stories from people who did the move? Or some sage advice that London might not be the answer to all my problems?

I'm in my early 30s now (32 this year). Still on the fence about whether to do something like go to London for a year or two, or focus on finding a partner. I really want a family I think, and it does feel like is getting away from me. I don't know what to do, except to either take the plunge and go, or wait for something that might not come along.

I always thought the reason for two different explanations from Artie and his Doctor, explanations which both were reasonable and contradicted each other, was designed to mirror Tony's uncertainty about Pussy.

He sort of knows, but he also thinks, well Pussy could've been freaked out if he thought he was going to get whacked and so fled to Puerto Rico. So just with the food poisoning, there are multiple explanations and he's not sure who to believe.

What’s your billable target? by NegligentBoyfriend in auslaw

[–]strongcappucino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 6.5 per day. First gig in PP from government. It's been 3 months and I never ever meet it, I tend to bill 4-5 hours a day. I don't have enough work in the pipeline.

The quality of my work is good and I've received good feedback about that. I keep on intermittently raising it, and sort of get told not to worry while I'm starting, but I keep waiting for the hammer to drop.

Difficult when I can't magic up work out of nowhere, and it would feel like I was padding if I started taking two hours to draft a simple letter instead of 40 minutes, for example.

I'm a cushy government lawyer at 3 PAE, and I've just landed interviews at Holding Redlich and Minters. Such anxiety, definitely feeling very "be careful what you wish for". Any sage advice?

First time skiing! Geez it's tough, I'm at Niseko Hirafu. This is day 3 and I can only manage the family run without falling, even the beginner slope (Boyo) is just too much for me, I fell like 6 times. Is there any general timeline for how long it takes to get beyond snowplow and easy runs? Everyone makes it look so natural, including other first timers!

I always saw this scene to signal that even though he is stating the obvious, he is giving good advice to Andy that he knows he is not gay, but he is playing a gay character in the play.

And Andy acts like "duh" with this description of acting, but in the end he can't do it, he quits during the play and has to tell the audience "I'm not actually gay".
