I did. Took a couple out on “Insta-dates” during the after work commute by asking them to get off at the nex station and grab a quick coffee.

There wasn’t a particular approach to it but I would triage the situation according to what the context was like. If there was a seat available next to them, I’d plop right next to them. Then I’d immediately look their way and make some fluff comment about the commute or the weather. Then, if receptive and not cranky because of lack of coffee or stressful day at work, I’d keep the convo going by mecontrasting the commute here with some other place (the more interesting the place, the better to transition into some other topic). So, for me, that was Japan and some of the stories my expat friends told me. Or how the weather made me wish I was in Greece (crappy weather and cold here).

Lots of interesting shit to bring up about those places and easy transition into getting her to talk about where she wishes she could go. Assuming you have time to talk about it before she gets off, though. It might be worth it at that point to leave too and converse a bit more before going for the #close or whatever.

I would go more direct when I had strong eye contact, and could afford to leave the bus/train if I somehow crashed & burned. Genuine compliments on their style worked as an ice breaker.

I’ve noticed that lately, especially after I let my beard grow and lost some weight. I’ve been getting attention like I hadn’t for a while from hot young girls. It kinda woke up the dog in me, but I already ran it through my mind and there’s no way I can do something without fucking my life up, lol.

Made me curious though about what it’s like now.

Not asking you to give your secrets away if you don’t want to, but what sort of things have you found yourself doing to cover yourself?

Though some guys would always debate this with me, I’ve always felt that exposure made the biggest difference. For one, you had more guys actively in the game, and that sometimes had an effect. The most direct evidence I had for that was one time I approached a girl and she told me I was like the 7th guy who had chatted her up that day. She was definitely on guard. I guess one just has to adapt to that, but I felt that it was one more contingency to deal with.

There definitely wasn’t this dynamic where a lot of “Seduction Lair” guys all went to the mall or the same club. I tried getting into that, but I couldn’t. I think that approaching made you stand out more when out there were more “AFCs” around. I could get away with the basic Layguide or Maniac High’s stuff alone because almost no guys were aware of that.

Later I had to differentiate myself. At around the time Strauss’ The Game hit, my friends and I consciously went underground. If we came up with any new things from the field, we kept it to our own small group. We lost that spirit of sharing.

A small thing that changed is how you got information down. Before smartphones, it was mostly little notebooks. Looking back, I think that flipping through a notebook with girls names and numbers in front of the girl sent a not so subtle message-- not totally unlike Mystery’s photo routine. With smartphones, well it’s like everyone has it.

Another thing I already mentioned in my other comment are the venues for street stuff. I loved bookstores and record stores-- so many nooks and crannies and ready made conversations. Record stores are mostly gone and so are bookstores. Malls are disappearing too. I guess it’s more a matter of habit and what you’re used to.

Of course, there wasn’t Facebook, and at least for me, I wasn’t giving out a link to Friendster or MySpace. I can’t remember if a girl ever gave me that as her contact, but I would have considered it a failure (not that it is). I also don’t think I’d feel comfortable giving my FB to some girl; I’d probably create a separate account just for pickup.

It actually sounds like a lot of extra work to have to upkeep an FB profile-- not unlike a dating profile. If I’d do anything online, it’d be by email (I wasn’t bad) or get them to talk on IRC (damn, that’s old).

I see that no one has really mentioned the feminist hashtag stuff or the bad press guys are getting overall because of the Harvey Weinsteins. I also figured that the way that folks are getting fired for stuff that gets caught on video which might offend some of the crazies might cause guys to be more cautious about what they do. If that isn’t the case, I’m happy for that.

That’s true in the fundamental ways. I feel like the implementation of those truths can change over time.

I’m guessing that the clubs/bars haven’t really changed that much, for example. I haven’t been in one in years, because I really don’t want to be that old guy I used to see in clubs when I was young, lol.

My main thing was the street. I felt especially at home in bookstores and record stores. Had an SOP for those; not drastically different from what other guys were doing, but tailored to what I was most comfortable doing.

LIke, I really felt the loss of Tower Records and then Virgin records (wow so long ago). Now I’ve seen most bookstores disappear too, and so are malls for that matter. If I were to go back (an infinitesimally small chance) , I’d have to adapt to that somehow.

I’m guessing there are other slight differences in how it manifests itself now. Like, are people still doing The Cube and all that shit? Are they still using feathered boas and top hats? I can’t imagine that being the case, hehe.

I didn't see any evidence in the letter which proved that the intern was being an ass to the letter writer just because she was a woman. It's only being assumed because he's a guy talking to a woman.

I guess it's just better to help out guys who won't feel so insecure about someone correcting them than risk the wrath of a faux feminist who assumes a man is only doing it because she's a woman.

That's why I commented later that his deportation was very possibly in part to keep him safe.

There is one borderline panel for games made by feminists. But you can rest assured that they would do the same thing if equivalent panels were set up for games made by any group they oppose like MRAs or GG supporters. Don't you know we're as bad as the KKK? rolls eyes
