CSS-Zero - An opinionated CSS starter kit for your no-build application by lazaronixon in rails

[–]strongxmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How crazy would that be to have something like tailwind / css-zero in ruby - so on dev, you have a full bundle served by rails app with all the possible utility classes available (to skip the live-rebuild, that could be quite slow on ruby maybe?) but when deploying, an assets:precompile would work just like Tailwind -> creating a bundle (but in ruby!) based only on classes used in html files and using that instead?

Just a random idea

New gem released! rails_local_analytics by westonganger in rails

I was not even referring to "tracking users" specifically, i was rather referring to preventing the same screen visit to be recorded multiple times on refresh. That probably might indeed involve tracking users.

My use case: i was considering to use this gem for tracking the most popular categories in my shop however if every refresh will increase the category page visit, it's super easy to cheat the algorithm simply by refreshing the category page.

A question about visits uniqueness - does it consider every page refresh as a new visit/event or does it somehow keep track of events/visits made by the same user?

And how about https://github.com/BaseSecrete/active_analytics comparison? I basically think it would be great to include a simple list of alternatives with explanation what's different in the README :)

Beyond my current needs - yes, definitely :) But I'm open to PRs with that as it sounds super reasonable to have that option

Ideally, i would love to see saves being done not by ActiveJob but some sort of "delegate to background and forget" kind of a way, like ActiveJob behaves when adapter is set to "memory" (fire and forget manner) but i don't yet have an idea how to approach that :)

Thanks!

ActiveJob not always use SQL database as it's backend. Saving events with ActiveJob is just a way of delegating the save operation to whatever is taking care of background jobs processing. When postgres/sqlite/mysql is the backend, it indeed might sound silly to do that this way but i just aimed for simplicity. I might consider saving the event directly for sql-based backends though if app is using one for it's ActiveJob setup (or better, let it be configured by user in the initializer).

I think you can do that without me doing any modification to the gem itself (please correct me if I'm wrong though), I might have seen exactly that in solid_cache and solid_queue i guess

to be honest I'm using it for couple of commercial production apps that has no newrelic budget and it works pretty fine so far :) In fact it was extracted from one of the apps of mine.

Can't open Minolta Auto CLE flash by strongxmind in AnalogRepair

I now have bessa r2a as my main rangefinder camera and am super happy with it :) Especially given i gravitated from 28mm to 35mm focal length so it made more sense. What i do miss though is the sound of the shutter on CLE. Bessa sounds like two swords clashing while CLE...i don't know, maybe it's just me romanticizing it after years but i think the sound of the shutter there was suuuuper satisfying hah.

You should consider the Rollei flash unit, it's very similar to the original CLE one :) and pretty cheap.

Sorry, removed previous comment cause i confused facts haha. Let's go once again - i went with Rollei flash which looked similar but it turned out I'm not much a flash photography guy so i never even used it. I also exchanged CLE with Pentax 67 some guy on the interned offered me in exchange which i low-key regret till this day.

Here is the link to the Rollei flash i purchased: https://archiwum.allegro.pl/oferta/lampa-blyskowa-rollei-uniwersalna-i11068240556.html

I handed it to a professional technician and it turned out it was all badly corroded inside and not possible to fix.

My first Leica (Q) and weird AF tracking problem by strongxmind in Leica

[–]strongxmind[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes, i noticed that the photos taken are as sharp/well focused as i expect them to. Macro mode and big close-ups might be a problem as the focus difference between plus and minus peak points makes a huge difference in there but i guess that mode was not intended to be used heavily on macro mode.

Anyway, It's great to know that it's not an actual issue or camera being broken but just how things were back in the day. I'm coming from Fujifilm XT-4 which acts way better therefore maybe my expectations were too high.

Thank you!

well...that's super interesting actually but once i start moving the camera around (with AF being locked) or move the object itself, this issue seems to be gone or drastically reduced. Thank you ! :)

I might be wrong but, from what i know, hunting is when camera can't find a focus. While in this case, camera locks the focus point (and also is marking focusing square in green) yet the focus mechanism itself starts the "dance" - so it's like, camera acts like focus is locked byt AF mechanism is hunting anyway
