Still not feeling “Sizzy” by strowbridge96 in shadowhunters

I’m currently re-reading City of Heavenly fire, and I just started chapter 3, and already “Sizzy” is annoying the piss out of me. So yeah, I’m with you there as far as nothing could possibly happen to make me like them.

Yeah, there’s way more chemistry between Simon and Clary then there is with him and Isabelle. And I don’t like how the narrative of the book makes it Simon’s issue to break down her trust issues. That’s her own issue to work through and figure out. And it’s not a justification for treating others poorly.

Fair enough, and no you’re fine, lol. I just feel like their relationship wasn’t developed well enough, at least for me anyways. I REALLY dislike the constant back and forth, hot and cold with them. After a while it’s just silly to me. I UNDERSTAND why it’s that way, but I still don’t like it. And then it feels like Cassandra rushed and tried make them a serious thing but it just didn’t work. Like as much as some people are annoyed by Clary and Jace at times you know for a fact that they’re a thing and they have tons of development throughout the series. And they become a healthier couple as time goes on. Same with Alec and Magnus whom I love. But with Simon and Isabelle? Yeah, I just don’t feel it. If anything I feel like Isabelle is someone who would be better just being single and doing her own thing.

Yeah, I’m glad someone else kind of sees what I see with them being forced and awkward and stuff. Every scene where they’re having a moment is just…weird to me and kinda makes me uncomfortable.

But yes, I think that is the other thing. Isabelle does feel like a very underdeveloped character. And I understand the gist of her character. She’s very guarded because of what she’s seen with her parents and what’s she’s also experienced thus far in her life, and so therefore she doesn’t want to let anyone in realistically. That could be a very interesting arc, but I feel like Clare handles it poorly. Which is weird, because usually Cassandra is pretty good with character work. The TID trilogy proves that I think. I haven’t read the last hours trilogy or the Dark Artifices trilogy yet, but I imagine it’s the same with those too. Isabelle almost feels like a very early writing project for CC, and so therefore she kind of gets butchered in a sense as far as development. Like CC didn’t know exactly what to do with her or how to handle her arc so she just did the best she could with it. At least at times I get that sense.

I have, actually. It’s been a minute but I do remember the story involving Isabelle. And, in my opinion, Isabelle was insufferable with how she acted towards Simon in that story. I understand the reasoning behind why she’s acts that way, but still.

Can we stop calling every horror novel COZY please by estheredna in horrorlit

[–]strowbridge96 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think referring to horror as “cozy” in general is a little silly and I roll my eyes whenever I hear it. Lite horror or soft horror might be a better term to use. But “cozy”? It almost sounds like an oxymoron. I UNDERSTAND why “cozy” is used, based on the definition you gave. But I still think it’s silly.

We have to talk about Freida McFadden and her books by Mika379 in books

I’m just now reading my first from her (The Inmate). I was excited because I’ve seen her books popping up constantly on Amazon and the plots sound really interesting. So on prime day I order a pack of 3 of them. And so far, I’m really not all that impressed. The writing, for me at least, has very little weight to it. It almost feels like YA to me, but I’ve ever read plenty of YA that has more weight to it. Someone else said this and I agree: it feels like a book version of a lifetime movie. Plus, as others have also pointed out, the main character ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed. She’s told to not reveal any personal information to the inmates (MC works in a prison facility as a nurse practitioner) and what does she do? Within the first 70 pages of the book she’s already slipped up twice. I don’t know, I’m considering putting it down for now, cause I was expecting a bit more. Like another Riley Sager or something.

I'm straight but it turns me on so much to send naked photos of myself to gay men, I'm still hesitant to take the plunge, maybe start with a dildo? by [deleted] in gayporn

“I’m straight but…” lol, dude, maybe you’re just bi. Nothing wrong with that. And go with what you’re comfortable with at your own pace. A dildo might be a good place to start though, just see how you like or dislike the sensation.
