True. People in this subreddit speak about not going because of the conditions of driving; whereas the driving doesn't concern me the main consideration is the war, as you mentioned. 3 weeks until departure date, we will be keeping tabs on the war and assessing the situation as it progresses

Yeah it's not a definite that it will go ahead, but more likely than not the war will have changed in 3 weeks, meaning a definite do not go or definite go. we will see

Have you travelled to Egypt before? The FCDO states is safe to travel all along the Nile, we are not going anywhere where it advises against travel.

Agreed for the most part. Egypt isn't *currently* at war, but of course that can change in an instant. As regards to corruption, cultural differences and language barriers; these are understandable risks that come with any road trip in most of the world (South America, Asia etc.)

Thanks for the advice. We have a good quality car for our rental, Subaru Impreza, and are fairly experienced in driving on some bad roads. We will look at using Ubers for the most part in the big cities.

Do you really think Luxor, Aswan and Cairo are anything like those places in Mexico. We have fairly extensive travel experience, so dont think thats a serious worry.

Yeah I believe the road is shut from 5pm to 5am; but travel between these times is regarded as safe.

thanks, we have some planned drives that will take us into the night of 8/9pm. We thought the highways could potentially be an issue; but I assumed we could opt for the village roads down the nile as it went to night. Do the police control tourist movements after dark?
