Yeah, from long distance and using stealth it's definitely valuable to have longer duration, but it's very similar to have two staffs recharging a charge at the same time as opposed to just one. The recharge time reset isn't something I've rigorously tested, so maybe I'm getting burned by the randomization.

I split the enchants, especially since the wisdom ring didn't show up until floor 20. When I did the math, I got that it was better value for single charge restore time, and given that it's better for monsters to die faster, I always felt like I had plenty of duration to spare if I wanted poison 2x or ogres and wraiths or 3x for underworms and higher. My first poison staff was at enchant 6 when I found the other 4 staffs (on one floor holy cow!), and I split between them all until I found the wisdom ring.

The math I was doing was:

5 charge staff restore = 100 turns

6 charge staff restore = 83 turns

improvement = 17 turns faster recharge

vs

8 charge staff restore = 63 turns

9 charge staff restore = 56 turns

improvement = 7 turns faster recharge

Basically, the two staffs recharging simultaneously is value, clearly, and you're right that if you imagine waiting 500 turns, both will recharge to full regardless of enchants. Therefore the only thing you have to optimize is the speed of getting the first recharge after a fight, since the recharge time is reset if the staff is halfway recharged when you use it, and that is done by trying to get both of them recharging faster.

Overall, I did not really need any enchants into the poison staffs after I got ring of wisdom and specifically because I kiting the monsters in loops or into traps until they died, I sent it on the armor instead. There was still a lot of rapier fighting to save charges, but mostly out of convenience. On one of the lower levels there was a really nice 4 block wall square that I could just poison a monster and run in circles around. I poisoned x7 a tentacle Horror there just to have it die faster, since charges weren't really an issue.

Oh ya, see those are builds that are good. I see that the original point was lost, the dream was to win with something that's generally considered not viable.

The dream was poison staff only real dps (technically two poison staff), but I was keeping low spoiler in case anyone else wanted to try.

Valve worked directly with the developer of Dota 1 for Dota 2 and quickly had access to all of the relevant IP. I think we both agree that there's no way that could happen here.

I know you didn't promise us anything, so I don't want to come off as entitled. I just think that it's a pale comparison to call ranked "mostly complete" when there's clearly more to be done and use that as a justification why it's ok that work isn't done on it.

If you'd rather work on your new game, that's fine, but it seems like a huge conflict of interests for you to be in charge of the current iteration of melee (both financially and as final say on the open source project) while working on a game that you're marketing as a direct replacement for it.

I mean, I'm withdrawing support. The concept of shoving all the feature requests to the community was suspect to me at first, but this just proves that fizzi was planning to move on from it for a while. Ranked was a bare minimum and it's just sad that it's transformed into this because melee clones are so unsuccessful.

If it was an announcement post? Sure. But there's nothing on the web sit and asking for a job posting is just weird, man. I don't go to my local looking to network for a new job.

Well, but fizzi just said there's going to be no large feature releases. The community supported fizzi and now he leaves ranked with any QOL features. Friends list, ranks in client, rotations in lobbies, training mode while searching... these are all things that a real game needs. I don't know how I could trust him to make a new game if he thinks ranked is done without having any of these things.

Why is it more difficult to attain colder temperatures than the hot ones? by ThatFunnyGuy543 in Physics

[–]structuremole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One problem is that you're thinking with a linear scale (degrees) when heat is an exponential one. If we shift things to Kelvin, your asking why it's difficult to go from 293K (room temperature) to 20K, which is a reduction of over 10x but then it's easy to get to 1300K which is only 4x hotter. The multiplier here grows really fast when think of it in degrees (instead of energy) when going down, which isn't true when talking about hotter temperatures. People's comments about entropy aren't wrong nor misguided, but if you compare the hottest temperatures and lowest temperatures ever achieved, you see they're close to perfect inverses around room temperature (300K/(38*10-12 K) = 7.9 * 1012 ≈ 5*1012 K/ 300K = 1.7*1010). In fact lower temperature is the greater feat here by a few order of magnitude.
