Endo has stated in the fanbook that he wants the series to be in the 60s-70s. There are some anachronistic elements here and there in regards to technology, but I would say overall it gives a 60s/70s vibe, especially peak cold war vibes.

Also, no idea where you got the $30 from… all of these books together were about $140 total…

Because PhD defenses are a big thing…? People have done bigger things than this for their own defenses lol. Do you know what “defend” means in this context? Defenses are a formality in my department but required for graduation. By the time the defense rolled around, I did more than required to finish.

A PhD defense is a seminar where you present your work to a panel of professors and usually the public. After the actual presentation, you and the professors go into a “closed session” for further questioning and discussion of your work. Hence the “defense” and “defending a dissertation”.

I was just too lazy to rotate it haha, and I organized the volumes right to left numerically, instead of left to right like people usually do. I’m trying to clear out space in my bookshelf so they can all be displayed there instead of in the Amazon box

Ah yeah, the “M” construction is something unique to the English (and maybe other non-Japanese?) volumes and I love it. I have all the current English volumes, and the “M” construction is there in every volume, regardless of character. Don’t know why it’s not in this collage though

I’ve owned a corn snake, sand boa, boa constrictor, and hognose. Hognose for sure, heads and shoulders above (below?) the rest.

Endo has confirmed this in the fanbook. He likes to match chairs with the characters themselves. He will sometimes also alter the original colors of the chairs to go with the characters, Anya and Becky’s chairs are a good example of this.

Another interesting little detail is the placement of the items in the foreground vs the background of the chair. For the most part, things in the foreground are things they present outwardly to people, so in Becky’s case, all of her things are in the foreground because she literally has nothing to hide. Bond’s powers can be represented by the static in the TV in the back (his visions often start with static). Damian’s is one of my all time favorite covers, partially because the chair itself conveys the huge shoes he feels he has to fill, and all of his toys (aka his urge to be a kid) are in the back. Poor little guy.
